PostPosted: Tue Oct 10, 2006 5:12 pm    Post subject: [custom-kernels overlay] one spot for latest custom kernels Reply with quote

I was bored at work today so I decided to start up a "custom-kernels" portage overlay. So far the overlay only contains the latest ebuilds for the following kernel sources: beyond, no, emission, rad, and viper. I will continually add their new ebuilds to this overlay as they post them. I though one central overlay for all the custom kernels would be usefull. If I missed a kernel or something is not working just leave a message. There are two methods of downloading the overlay. Note, if you are running layman 1.0.7 or later, it will ignore overlays with missing attributes. Add the -k option to get around this.

[METHOD 1] Manual:
# cd /usr/local
# svn co http://opensvn.csie.org/custom_kernels
# echo 'PORTDIR_OVERLAY="${PORTDIR_OVERLAY} /usr/local/custom_kernels"' >> /etc/make.conf

Update Overlay:
# cd /usr/local/custom_kernels
# svn up

[METHOD 2] Layman:
# layman -f
# layman -a custom-kernels

Update Overlay:
# layman -s custom-kernels

how long do you intend to maintain this?

In the meantime you can add http://berkano.net/files/gentoo/layman.xml to your /etc/layman/layman.cfg to get this overlay into layman.

there seems too be a problem with the rt-sources.

You should add that to the first post, for completion purposes.

Please re-pull, ebuild now works, but has hard-coded SRC_URI, this should be fixed by the end of the weekend.

[quote][METHOD 2] Layman:
# layman -kf
# layman -ka custom-kernels

Update Overlay:
# layman -ks custom-kernels

I'm getting this after I type any of these commands
[code]layman: error: no such option: -k

sources are still not in /usr/portag/sys-kernel
am I missing something ?

[METHOD 2] Layman:
# layman -kf
# layman -ka custom-kernels

Update Overlay:
# layman -ks custom-kernels

I'm getting this after I type any of these commands
[code]layman: error: no such option: -k

sources are still not in /usr/portag/sys-kernel
am I missing something ?

you must have an olderversion of layman, the new layman ignores overlays without a contact attribute so "-k" ignores that attribute so layman dosent complain, but the custom-kernels overlay has a contact so it will work with out "-k" i just thought adding "-k" looked cleaner

Please re-pull, ebuild now works, but has hard-coded SRC_URI, this should be fixed by the end of the weekend.

updated, and your ebuild works now good :)

I upgraded layman the problem with -k is gone
the ebuilds are in /usr/portage/local/layman/custom-kernels/system-kernel
when I do emerge -p no-sources or any of the "custom" sources I get
Code:
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "no-sources".

when I try to emerge an ebuild directly

emerge rad-sources-2.6.18-r1.ebuild

I get
[code]Calculating dependencies
!!! '/usr/portage/local/layman/custom-kernels/sys-kernel/rad-sources/rad-sources-2.6.18-r1.ebuild is not in a valid portage tree hierarchy or does not exist'

do I need anything in my make.conf ?

The theres something missing.. it would be nice if u added http://distfiles.evolution-mission.org/scripts/emission-tunables to the files of emission sources, because it is missing^^

http://evolution-mission.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=58

And thanks very much, it's a great overlay :)
