OK, now I know what my problem is but I don't know how to solve it...
I have installed X.org with unicode support after I switched to UTF-8 (using http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/utf-8.xml). When I startx it is extremely slow. When I switch back to something else (not utf8) X starts instantly...
I don't know why. I think it is something with the fonts. Can you help me? These are the logs:

twm is the default window manager, and hum... just use something else, like fvwm, *box and so on..
once you've emerged a new WM, do this:

The font error is caused by some fonts not being installed (obviously); I had this same 'problem' after upgrading to xorg7. Xorg seems to expect these fonts on unicode systems. The solution, which can also be found here (see the section on the cjk flag), is to emerge media-fonts/font-daewoo-misc, media-fonts/font-isas-misc, and media-fonts/font-jis-misc. _________________ Have you ever seen Geneva™, Monaco®, or New York®?

The fonts I listed are the 'lacking fonts' for these charsets. For instance, media-fonts/font-jis-misc contains the font for charset JISX0208.1983-0. _________________ Have you ever seen Geneva™, Monaco®, or New York®?

A better way to "solve" the problem is to install the package "intlfonts" which contains the needed fonts. This package is also mentioned in Gentoo UTF-8 guide. I have asked this same question on many forums but I have not yet gotten any answers. The quesion is:
Why does X want to load asian character sets if the user has selected UTF-8 locale?? |

Duh. Unicode is support for as many character sets as possible, including asian character sets (which is very helpful for me, 'cause all my music is in Japanese ) |
