I have two 250GB disc - I want to make fresh install of gentoo.. but i am little confused... Is it sil3112 a hardware or semi-hardware (linux software) raid ?.
If anyone of you have experience with onboard Sil3112, 2 disc and RAID 0 - please give me some information. _________________ phoenix

phoenix_me,
The SIL 3112 is BIOS fakeraid. The sole advantage of fake raid over kernel raid is that Windows can read the raid.
Hmm, maybe thats not an advantage.
Unless you need Windows to share your raid, use kernel raid. It works well here.
Trap for the unwary - /boot *must* be either raid1 or not raided.
I have a SIL 3112 with two 300Gb Diamond Maxtor 10s running with kernel raid.
It works well _________________ Regards,
