|
|
I read that Beryl is the new compiz-quinnstorm, so I emerged all the neccessary packages. I couldn't find in the XGL Howto on the gentoo wiki how to edit compiz-decorator to start beryl as soon as kde starts. Anybody have any idea how to do this properly? Thanks.

well, i created this wrapper script:
Code: |
#!/bin/sh
dbus-launch beryl-manager
|
placed it in /usr/bin/beryl-wrapper, chmod a+x, then added this line to /etc/env.d/99kde-env:
Code: |
KDEWM=beryl-wrapper
|
and did an env-update.
(don't get me wrong, i don't like gnome nor kde, but i wanted to mess with beryl to make some buddies jealous, and gnome doesn't work properly with dualhead setups whereas kde does) _________________ "Confident, lazy, cocky, dead." -- Felix Jongleur, Otherland

Hmmm okay, I tried that. However, I get no animated effects, ie: wobbly windows, cube, etc. |

did you try to "dry-run" beryl to see if it worked? did you relog?
check the beryl icon (the red diamond) in your system try, right click it, and check what window-manager is selected... beryl has a tendency to just bail out if something's wrong and the beryl-manager script will then revert to the fall-back window manager that can be configured in that menu... _________________ "Confident, lazy, cocky, dead." -- Felix Jongleur, Otherland

Yea looks like beryl fails, the WM selected was Metacity. How can I troubleshoot this? |

you sould try a dry run with some of the existing
files provided by Beryl
/usr/bin/beryl-manager
/usr/bin/beryl-start
if one of those works then i would suggest going here
and check out how to set them up for auto start
for nvidia
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_nVidia_GL_Desktop_Effects
or here for more general help

Okay, I tried running "dbus-launch beryl-manager" and it worked, so i tried again what mdeininger said and it worked also. I don't know what I did differently but all well. |
