Hi all.
I'v been trying to remove the gnome installation from my computer using emerge --depclean.
The problem is that it wont work because every time I use it, it keeps telling me
that the package glitz-0.5.6 is required by xgl-0.0.1_pre20060714-r1 after I emerge it,
and run emerge --depclean again it says that cairo need glitz-0.4.4 and so on..
help, anybody?? |

Well, IIRC there are a lot of gnome dependancies for compiz/xgl ATM... |

There must be a way to get rid of the unwanted packages even with xgl...

Sure, 'emerge -C <package>' will remove <package> without any dependancy checking. But don't expect something to work after you rip out its dependancies... |

I really don't think you're getting my intention.
The problem is that emerge --depclean asks me to do 'emerge --update', when I do
it emerges a different version of glitz and still I can't use --depclean.
All I want to do is:
emerge --depclean
revdep-rebuild
to remove any unused packages and repair the damage that may
have been caused... |

yes they do and each has its own version number, so every time emerge installs
a different version of glitz, in an endless loop.
i think its versions 1.4 and 1.5 or 1.0.4 and 1.05... |

I'd either try removing the specific version from one of the ebuilds or just get rid of the shonky ebuilds... Prob best bet is editing the cairo ebuild at a somewhat educated wild guess |
