... but only randomly.
can't figure out why, but when I start a X server, play some q3 or whatever, I usually switch back to console with ctrl-alt-f#, cause I normally live in console..
however if I want to switch back to X (btw: wm is unimportant), it leads to a black screen, and no chance to use the keyboard any more.
running applications (e.g. cplay or emerge) will do their job until they finished without problems.
already checked my logfiles, but cannot find any incorret entries.
did anyone experience equal behaviour before? _________________ Markus Nigbur |

If you have a nvidia card, there's a memleak that might be causing you to get lockups. The newer nvidia drivers have been marked stable, try upgrading, or just re-compiling them. _________________ "Please be aware, that while this message is being broadcast today, you may recive it tommorow, possibly yesterday." |

Are you using framebuffered mode in the console?
The Nvidia framebuffer drivers crashed on me whenever I switched.
try using the VESA ones instead. |

well, yes i am using a nvidia card, but updating didn't fix.
i also use framebuffer console, but with the vesa driver already as it's a well known fact that using nvidia framebuffer and running a x server will lead to problems.
might still be the problem of a memory leak some future versions will fix, hopefully. _________________ Markus Nigbur |

Are you using the nvidia agp, or agparts?
And the infamous memory leak was (to the best of everyone's knowledge) killed off in the 4xxx series of drivers. _________________ "Please be aware, that while this message is being broadcast today, you may recive it tommorow, possibly yesterday." |

Disabling renderaccell in XF86config might help. |
