fglrx vs radeon drivers

  • Quote

Post by b_nutzer » Sun Sep 24, 2006 12:39 pm

I used radeon drivers for my Ati-Mobility X700 and my fps-count with glxgears was about 3900 fps.
Now with the ati-driver package I get 2500 fps. I changed it, because I need aticonf to set powerstates.

My questions are:
*Whats the difference between these drivers?
*And is it possible to get the same result with my fglrx driver?

thanks for reading :>

PS: sry for my english

AFAIAO fglrx are drivers directly from ati and radeon are OS drivers made by mentally healthy people

There are threads which point out that glxgears is not a benchmark.

In the same threads posters have said that their glxgears fps are less with the ati drivers.

Posters suggest using game demos for real benchmarking.

I know that glxgears isn't a real benchmark.
Also Quake 3 runs much slower ;-;

Did you switch opengl to the implementation of the new drivers?

How did you get 3D rendering for an X700 with the open source drivers?

Code: Select all

eselect opengl list
eselect opengl set ati
Get a list of installed opengl implementations, set the ati proprietary one, respectively.

Check your logs for any warning or error.
Check your xorg.conf
You did update it after you installed the ati drivers, right? I don't mean just changing the loaded modules, there's a LOT of options that are ati-drivers specific in my xorg.conf for example. Actually I made a new one from scratch with some ati script and then merged with the old one.
