Hi!
After an update of doom3, I ran into a very odd problem when trying to run doom3. This is the output when it starts:

Obviously, the file /opt/doom3/base/pak001.pk4 is not loaded. Looking into the directory, this is the result:

The file is there, and has the correct permissions, but simply isn't read by doom3. I tried unmerging and reinstalling doom3, but with no luck. any ideas?

Got it... took the pak001.pk4 from my good ol'Windows PC, where DOOM3 was still installed. This file has a different checksum, so it seems my CD is broken 
This is why gamers need to be able to make legal backup copies of their favorite games. I don't think id Software will replace my CDs, and if they'd do, the shipping costs would be higher than buying a budget version.

Here's a helpful link: http://zerowing.idsoftware.com/linux/doom/Doom3FrontPage it contains checksums of the files you are to copy from the CD's
I still have trouble with my DVD files but I'm trying to find out if there is a method by which the files were corrupted in transfer from the media to the hard disc. These checksums (md5sums) will be valuable to those trying to make good on their investment in the game.
Look for Patch installation instructions a ways down the page.
