|
|
hello everyone...
so i just finished installing grub on my computer, but when i tried to boot the following message appeared:
Code: |
VFS: Cannot open root device "sda7" or unknown-block (0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic - not syncinc: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (0,0) |
and i can´t figure out what the problem is, my partition scheme for gentoo is as follows:
Code: |
/dev/sda4 Extended
/dev/sda5 /boot
/dev/sda6 /swap
/dev/sda7 / |
and my grub.conf file looks like this:
Code: |
default 0
timeout 10
title GNU/Linux
root(hd0,4)
kernel /boot/kernel-2.6.17-gentoo-r4 root=/dev/sda7
|
if someone could help me solve this problem that´d be great! |

You may find [FAQ] KC13: I just installed a new kernel and it won't boot useful.
If it isn't or it's not clear, please post back here. _________________ The avatar is jorma, a "duck" from "Elephants Dream": the film and all the production materials have been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License, see orange.blender.org for details.

Your kernel is missing a driver. Make sure the driver for your ide or sata controller is included in the kernel. Search the forums if you don't know what driver you need. You're not exactly the first with this problem. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered
