I would be VERY happy with a online search to search thru the packages online. This is because i want to search thru it while compiling (kde takles a long time with a 450) and if you start emerge a second time you aren't happy. _________________ My weBlog

I don't think there are problems in starting emerge a second time just to search (or pretend).
BTW you should propose the enhancement of the Online Package Database in bugzilla. _________________ I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it. |

If you're running kde or have qt installed kportage will let you search the local portage tree and shows masked packages aswell so is quite useful.
Just emerge kportage and you're sorted. Doesn't tamper with the files while an emerge is running if you don't try to emerge from within kportage as far as im aware aswell.
I use it safely during a running emerge.
Hope that helps.

Running emerge -s or -S while compiling is happening is safe. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
