It's because x264 has changed. It's perfectly fine to unmask these ebuilds, as long as you unmask and update them together. _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln

I unmasked it and it works great! Finally some wmv3 support, now all I need is the real player stuff(although ive only needed it once), 64bit Sun Java 1.5, and Flash 9(gnash or macromedia)
Speaking of Sun Java 1.5, why hasnt Sun ported the mozilla plugin to 64bit? They ported everything else. |

Good question, especially since Java is supposed to be portable cross-platform... _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln

I don't think the 10th of August ffmpeg snapshop has complete WMV3/VC-1 decoding.
If you look at this change on the 11th of August you can see b-frames were disabled, presumeably because decoding didn't work right.
The entries later in the changelog look very promising though. _________________ 2.6.35 / Gnome 2.30

I've tried. It emerged well and the WMV9 works like a charm.. however I'm no longer able to use my font and it keeps telling me that
Code: |
Warning unknown option subfont-text-scale at line 3
Warning unknown option subcp at line 6
|
..which has been working normal with the old mplayer..
Does anyone else have the problem, plz?

Well, it works - sortof. It has a quality problem for me: It seems from an intra frame onwards (part of) the colours gets stronger till the next Intra frame where they suddenly drop back to normal and start getting stronger again... |

Works great here, haven't come across a file I can't play yet. I don't know about real media since I try to stay away from those.
On a side note opengl video mode output has improved drastically lately(at least for me it has). Just a month or so ago running 1.0_pre7-something it would be super slow and drop frames like crazy at first then it would "catch up" to real time and be mostly ok. Now it opens nearly instantly and works smoothly and correctly from the get go. Not really sure if there is any real advantage of opengl output as compared to the other modes (though wacky accelerated effects with XGL or something comes to mind), but it's nice to see the progress. |

I suppose you mean a binary ? as nothing by sun is in source code. |

Well they say that soon it will be open source but, yes I mean the binary Sun Java JDK/JRE. If you goto java.sun.com you can download it and everything is 64bit except the mozilla plugin. Seems kind of stupid to do everything but that. |

Anybody noticed any problems playing plain mpeg files with media-libs/xine-lib-1.1.3_pre20060914 and media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20060816 to which i upgraded because of the wmv-support and hence my asking here in this thread?
Edit: Never mind, it seems like its the file that was causing the problem, i was just confused as mplayer played it fine. |

I get a weird compilation error... too many open files. What could that be?

Is it possible today to install 64-bit MPlayer + packages like xvid or ffmpeg (64-bit too) to watch movies? Or it is still needed to use win32codecs which are 32 bit?
I hope i can use 64-bit mplayer now....? _________________ Asio Software Technologies

This lets you run 64bit mplayer/xine using 64bit ffmpeg as the codec. So yes this lets you have 64bit mplayer. |

Ive yet to try it myself, but the latest svn of mplayer can use the 32 bit codecs with a native 64 bit mplayer.
Recent ffmpeg does have support for wmv9, wma3, soon 3gp and loads of other codecs.
I waiting for the day when the windows dlls are obsoloute ... |

hmm....
So if the newest SVN can be built as 64-bit software and use 32-bit win32codecs is it possible to use both win32codecs and ffmpeg for wmv's with 64-bit mplayer? _________________ Asio Software Technologies

You can use 64bit mplayer + ffmpeg svn and 32bit mplayer + win32codecs
Myself, I use them both, 64bit mplayer for most purposes and 32bit mplayer-bin for the files ffmpeg doesn't support, like Indeo Video 5 _________________ AMD Athlon64 3500+

I've tried the latest x264-svn and the latest masked mplayer once again yesterday, but it still dies whenever I try some hotkey.. even showing OSD "o" kills mplayer :-/ _________________ Linux gentoo x86_64 kernel-2.6.18-ck1-r2
