I am in the process of replacing my home server running Mandrake 9 with one running Gentoo (After running gentoo on several other machines I have realized just how SLOW and bloated the Mandrake server is - and it only serves about 8 computers). I have the primary servers setup--mail,ftp,dns,web--but not need to get an IRC server up and running. Basically, It currently serves about 2-5 users plus an eggdrop.
My current server is running the PTlink IRCD with the PTlink Services.
This works very well, but I am wondering if there is an ebuild that would suit my purposes. I haven't had much experience with other servers, so I'm not sure how to evaluate the ebuild choices.
My needed features are:
1. Services - Obviously. Need to register the Nicks and Channel(s).
2. Auto-join all users to a channel - as I recall (been a few months since I last configured it) ptlink services handles this. Basically, as soon as a user logs in, he is dumped to a certain channel. This is very nice for those friends who drop in now and then but don't have IRC experience.
3. Be relativly easy to configure to do the above.
If none of the current ebuild IRCDs can do this, I'll just compile PTLink on the new server.
