xfree-4.3.0-r2 + opengl (Mesa, libGL) = ?

I have posted this as a long whine at Bug #19776, but I'll put it here, too,
to see if anyone else has seen anything like this.

With xf86-4.3.0-r2, for me, -glxgears- (or any other openGL application)
aborts with a Segment fault in libGL.so.1.2 (at glViewport ?), which is
assembler code with xf86-4.3.0 (but not previously).

My complete system is described as part of the bug report, but it might
be relevant that this is an Ultra-2 Creator FFB2+ system.

Failure does not occur with libGL.so from xf-4.2.1-r2 substituted.

Has anyone else had any experience with openGL and xfree-4.3.0?

Nonassembler version works fine (after some work to make it build). More
information at bug19776.
