Edit file defs.py in /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/deskbar:
DATA_DIR = "/usr/share"
LIB_DIR = "/usr/lib"
VERSION = "2.16.0"
PACKAGE = "deskbar-applet"
PYTHONDIR = "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages"
And change DATA_DIR, to your data directory, in my case, /usr/share, so when deskbar start's it will find /usr/share/deskbar-applet and it's files.
anti@lupustivoli /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/deskbar $ /usr/lib/deskbar-applet/deskbar-applet -w
Running installed deskbar, using [/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/deskbar:$PYTHONPATH]
Data Dir: /usr/share/deskbar-applet |
I have to add, that though now the deskbar applet loads without any problem, it does crash if I try to send an query to it. |
Then i think that you have another problem, because mine works just fine: beagle querys, folders, history, etc..
u can try:
move ~/.gnome2/deskbar-applet to recreate that diretory
re-emerging your deskbar-applet,mono and beagle stuff... obviously before an emerge sync |

does anybody find the solution?
I've got the same thing since my upgrade.
thank u |
i did an "emerge -e gnome", which didn't help at all...
the solution was to remove "usr/lib/bonobo/servers/GNOME_shermans_appletApplet.server".
that's it...very strange  _________________ --

I can't open the menu by press ALT+F(the shortcut key of menu item) when my locale is set to zh_CN.UTF-8,
I have reported this bug on bugs.gnome.org, but until now they don't have a solution for this.
and some days ago I upgraded gvim to 7.0.79, the menu shortcut key doesn't work too, but with other gtk program, works fine, such as xchat2, xchat-gnome
Anyone has this problem? |

Another bug with the deskbar, or a feature?
With the old deskbar-2.14 I could see the program "icon" and and "executable-icon", when I typed in a program name like "gedit". With the new deskbar-2.16 I could see the the program icon like that of gedit while I am typing, but if i finished with typing the program icon disappears and only the "executalbe-icon" is visible.
Did the developers really want this behavouir? _________________ Just you and me strogg! |

| My keybinding for logout is not working anymore. Gnome accepts the "control alt delete" keybinding when setting it but it doesn't trigger the logout function. I'm running xkeybindings and xmodmap. |

Can someone explain this one to me:
| Code: | emerge -uDNp world
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating world dependencies /
...
[ebuild U ] www-client/mozilla-firefox-1.5.0.7 [1.5.0.5] LINGUAS="-bg% -eu% -gu_IN% -lt% -pa_IN%"
[ebuild U ] www-client/epiphany-2.16.0 [2.14.2.1-r1]

I've read before that epiphany pulls in Mozilla but this still seems strange for some odd reason. |

| xev is not picking up anything abnormal. I checked bugs.gnome.org for this issue (control alt delete keybinding for logout) and it seems they are aware of this bug and planning to bind gnome-system-monitor with a prominent logout feature to "control alt delete" (a lot like what you get in windows when pressing those keys). |

hmm I have some weird problem with cairo
It keeps turning up in temerge -uDN world half the time with versoin 1.2.4 and the other half with 1.0.4 whichever is not installed.
using the tree switch for emerge i figured out that pygtk seems to depend on 1.0.4 directly and
| Code: | [nomerge ] dev-python/pycairo-1.0.2
[nomerge ] dev-python/pygtk-2.10.1
[nomerge ] gnome-base/libglade-2.6.0
[nomerge ] x11-libs/gtk+-2.10.3
[ebuild U ] x11-libs/cairo-1.2.4 [1.0.4] USE="pdf%* -directfb% -svg%"
|
is the dependandcy chain for 1.2.4
Is it just me or does anybody else have this.
Hope I don't run into the same thing with firefox
EDIT: moving to pycairo-1.2.0 solved it |

interesting - I don't even have a calendar button anymore; evolution 2.8.0 is overall more responsive than 2.6.0 but I need my calendar
editbit of rudimentary digging showed it was a problem with libgnutl.so.12 not found - I have libgnutl.so.13 and libgnutl.so.13.0.9
Tried a symlink but then it complained about /usr/libexec/evolution/2.8/exchange-storage (IIRC) needing gnutl-1.2.1 and I seem to have gnutl-1.4.x on my system...
What version of gnutl do others have on working gnome-2.16 systems (ie gnome is functional and evolution has a working calendar)?
Thanks for any input / advice _________________ I tried installing Suse Linux off the Internet. It got stuck in the middle somewhere.Installing off the Internet is for the birds.

Kaste - your "emerge" output would be more useful if you had the "v" switch enabled, as then we could see what kind of USE flags you have set. Given that what you're trying to solve are dependency oddities, USE flags are definitely germane to the discussion |

Well Thanks for the reply, although my output already hat the v flag turned on as you can see. The Cairo weirdness is a bug I am fairly sure but the workaround solved it. I'll have a look into the ebuilds as soon as i have time to do that.
As for the firefox thing, yes unfortunately this problem is just about the same, yelp wants to pull in firefox 2.0 because i unmasked it and it just takes the highest version number. Epiphany on the other hand was happy installing with firefox 1.5.5 but now wants the highest non beta version so the just keep chasing each others tail. Maybe I'll try masking <=1.6, don't think it will work though because then epiphany is still not aware of 2.0. Anyway here is
| Code: |
emerge -uDNpvt world
These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order:
Calculating world dependencie
[nomerge ] gnome-base/gnome-2.16.0 USE="cups dvdr hal mono -accessibility -cdr"
[nomerge ] www-client/epiphany-2.16.0 USE="python -debug -doc"
[ebuild UD] www-client/mozilla-firefox-1.5.0.7 [2.0_beta2] USE="ipv6 gnome -debug -java -mozdevelop -xinerama -xprint" LINGUAS="-ar -bg -ca -cs -da -de -el -en_GB -es% -es_AR -es_ES -eu -fi -fr -ga% -ga_IE% -gu_IN -he% -hu -it -ja -ko -lt -mk -nb% -nb_NO -nl -pa_IN -pl -pt_BR% -ro% -ru -sk -sl -sv% -sv_SE -tr -zh_CN -zh_TW (-af%) (-fy%) (-mn%) (-nn%) (-nso%) (-pt%) (-xh%) (-zu%)" 0 kB
|
I've already tried putting <=www-client/mozilla-firefox-1.5.9 -gnome into /etc/portage/package.use but that only changed the use flag and left the problem unaffected. When putting -gnome after the unversioned command above it obviously wants to redo firefox-2.0, which is how i found out that it's yelp pulling in firefox
| Code: |
[nomerge ] gnome-base/gnome-2.16.0 USE="cups dvdr hal mono -accessibility -cdr"
[nomerge ] gnome-extra/yelp-2.16.0 USE="-beagle -debug"

To be quite honest, i can live with the situation. There is always emerge --resume --skipfirst |

I have gnutls.so.13 and my calendar-button is there.
Maybe a revdep-rebuild -X -- pv and see if it wants to recompile evolution? |

Umm has anyone actually used the cd copy feature of Gnome CD master with only one recorder?
I never noticed that app before and decided to give it a try.
I think it is a little odd. Besaid function copies a cd. In my case I'm working on a laptop and therefore only have one optical drive. When it is done copying the disc to the hard drive it doesn't say anything. No Popup, no note, no label that changes. It just sits there, idle, waiting for you to remember that you have to change the disc.
I mean it's not too hard to guess and once you know it's no problem but it still not the best example of usability in my opinion. |

That's odd. How do you know when it's done? Just watch the LED on the CD drive? _________________ The free market gave me gonorrhea. |

| well it has a statusbar saying a hundred percent, but to be honest i usually don't trust those, because they always seem to do most of their work in the last 3 percent and It doesn't say wether this is for the whole copy job or just the track or whatever. |

Hi all,
recently i updated to 2.16 (which is great btw) but i have a couple of problems
1) I lost all links to the mount points in the Computer link. When i clicked on the Computer icon on the
desktop in opened nautilus with all partitions and removable devices. Now the partitions are gone and i only see
cdroms and usb drives. I had the same problem some time before but it was solved after an update. Is there a solution for this ????
2)After i updated i can not use Vlc because if you run Vlc and then you go to File->Open File and in the Open File dialog you click on browse, the Open Dialog that normally showed is no longer visible. The application is not responding anymore and you have to kill it. Its like a modal dialog is running but is not visible, so all messages are directed to it, but you can not close it because it is not visible!!!
I have fully updated my system (and rebuilded wxGTK and Vlc). I use Xgl and compiz but i don't thing that they have anything to do with that.Afterall the system worked perfectly before 2.16.
I would appreciate any help...
Thanks in advance |

| iz, I see the same thing. I think this is probably a gtk+ 2.10 bug, I've seen similar behavior in a couple other applications. It may require a new wxGTK release. |
