oh bella questa
aggiorno gcc, do l'emerge di module-init-tools e poi
arriva a

emerge tutto e alla fine dice:

al che mi trovo questo processo:

che inizia a ciucciare tutta la ram e tutta la swap fino al tracollo del sistema!!!
sono basito 
edit: ho cmq provato a lanciare generate-modprobe.conf da solo e mi dice:

update: al riavvio mi ha sparato una sequela di:

e che trovo a quelle linee?

e sono le ultime due istruzioni del file...
EDIT. il problema era situato in questo:

pacchetto che avevo ri-emerso dopo aver aggiornato gcc
il problema si risolve con
