anyone have trouble with alt-tab? On my system it runs really slow. People on the compiz forum said disable minimize, but that just makes compiz unusuable...

I ran into the same issue and was able to resolve it by creating this sym link.....

Code:
ln -s /usr/local/overlay/xgl-coffee/x11-base/xgl/files/xgl-mesa-symlink-slang-pp-version.patch /usr/local/overlay/xgl-coffee/x11-base/xgl/files/xgl-mesa-slang_pp_version.diff

I apologize if this topic is covered somewhere else, but I have searched and been unable to find any references to it. Basically, sometimes my XGL session will create window trails on the window sorting feature (the intermediate frames of the animation stick around). Here's a picture to show you what I mean:
http://www.glue.umd.edu/~cconroy/xgl_window_trails.png

I have an ATI X800XT with working DRI. I'm running a recent (as of this week) xgl/compiz (~x86) and followed the guide on the wiki.Let me know if I should post any more info to help diagnose the issue.

KaiNeR - it looks like your overlay directory is in a different location than mine (/usr/portage/local/layman/portage-xgl) so substitute /usr/local/overlay/xgl-coffee with /usr/portage/local/layman/portage-xgl and that should do the trick.

I'm getting the same! I had xorg 7.1 masked due to the Nvidia driver error. Just unmasked as the new nvidia driver supports and get the above.

I masked the two XGL ebuilds for the xorg-server (r1 & r2) and that emerged the standard Gentoo ebuild. Seems to be working fine for me after, not sure what patches they have for the XGL ebuilds!

Hi,

I followed all the instructions from http://www.gentoo-wiki.com/Talk:HOWTO_XGL
The Windowed Mode works fine for me but when I try to use xdm the xserver starts, after a while I can see the kdm
login screen for a moment and then the xserver dies...

Looking to /var/log/kdm.log it says:

Code:
X Window System Version 7.0.0
Release Date: 21 December 2005
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 7.0

Current Operating System: Linux canyon 2.6.17-gentoo-r7 #7 Sun Sep 3 03:00:18 CEST 2006 i686
Build Date: 01 September 2006

Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 93
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X93-lock
        and start again.

FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/share/fonts/misc/" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing.

Fatal server error:
Xorg died, exit status 1

I also looked to /var/log/Xorg.93.log but cannot find something wrong.

Does someone know how to solve this?

thanks,

pete.

I re-synced and re-emerged xorg-server-1.1.1-r2 and it compiled withour error. I'm not sure why.

On another subject, the overlay has added "compiz-start". I can't find any mention of thes ebuild anywhere.

Code:
pentahex xgl-coffee # ./svnup.sh
Update from revision 415 ...
U    x11-base/xgl/xgl-0.0.1_pre20060823.ebuild
U    x11-base/xgl/Manifest
A    x11-misc/compiz-start
A    x11-misc/compiz-start/files
A    x11-misc/compiz-start/files/compiz-start.desktop
A    x11-misc/compiz-start/files/digest-compiz-start-1.0

A    x11-misc/compiz-start/compiz-start-1.0.ebuild
A    x11-misc/compiz-start/compiz-start-1.1.ebuild
Updated to revision 419.

Anybody know what this is for?

compiz-start:

It's just a simple script that starts compiz & the gwd, and places a tiny icon in the systray that allows you to launch gset-compiz, restart compiz or switch to metacity.

I ran into the same issue and was able to resolve it by creating this sym link.....

Code:
ln -s /usr/local/overlay/xgl-coffee/x11-base/xgl/files/xgl-mesa-symlink-slang-pp-version.patch /usr/local/overlay/xgl-coffee/x11-base/xgl/files/xgl-mesa-slang_pp_version.diff

That does the trick, thanks Shesh :D

*** ATTENTION ALL QUINNSTORM USERS ***

Hello there fellow users of the compiz-quinnstorm and related packages. Quinnstorm has recently developed csm or Compiz Settings Manager. This replaces gconf entirely. Thus with the most recent revision as of right now, gconf is deprecated for compiz-quinnstorm. Therefore you must change compiz --replace gconf to compiz --replace dbus csm.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Running
Code:
compiz --replace csm

I got an error saying that csm is dependent on the dbus plugin.

When I changed it to:
Code:
compiz --replace dbus csm

Everything ran successfully.

Cheers,

-C.

Thanks, I've updated my statement. Why it requires the dbus plugin but doesn't automatically load itself I don't know.

Nice work! Yet another thing so KDE users don't need to install a few of the Gnome libraries :D

Now if only we could get the KDE pager going I'd be a happy man ;)
