Hi everybody,
whenever I reboot Gentoo, the date and time settings are totally screwed up. Usually, I adjust the date and time (both local and UTC), but after a reboot, these settings are gone.
Example:
- UTC adjusted to 21 Apr 2003 08:30 am,
- local time (as displayed in the Gnome menu bar) becomes 10:30 (correct),
- reboot,
- new date/time is 21 Apr 2003 08:03 am. (Sometimes, even the day and month is changed.)
Assumption:
I've checked the BIOS settings between reboots: The OS seems to read/store a wrong UTC when booting and shutting down.
Hardware/System:
I have a SONY VAIO with Gentoo 1.4 and kernel 2.5.66 running. The problems started a few days ago. Before it, I've had both RedHat and Gentoo runnig fine for several months.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Many motherboard clocks are really weird... e.g. this box. It works great until it is turned off... but then it can drift hours in just a day.
Anyway, the solution I use was to emerge ntp & configure it. That way, your system time will be set at bootup with frigtening accuracy. _________________ regards, Esben
