|
|
I've just finished installing gentoo 1.4_rc4 on my Inspiron 8000. I've read nearly every thread in the forum about USB (among other resources), but to no avail...I can't get my ms optical intellimouse to work.
I've got usb support compiled into the kernel, and lsmod is as follows
Code: |
usb-uhci
hid
mousedev
input
|
I've also got an entry for usbdevfs in /etc/fstab. I've tried all the uhci/ohci modules, and none seem to work. My chipset is an Intel 815e
AGP, if that helps anyone. Can someone please help.
Also, dmesg is showing that the mouse is detected properly, and I've configured xfree for a second mouse (usb). I can usually do this with my eyes closed on a PC, but this is my first experience with linux on a laptop.
Thanks in Advance,
Dave |

The extra entry I have there is usbcore. I also have ohci
Until I had the 5 entries, it simply would not work. _________________ [LRU] |

Dave,
Enable UHCI in your kernel. Also, quite crucial, enable 'HID input layer support' in the kernel. If you don't have this, then everything will show up, but we will have the "nothing works"-phenomena.
What may come in handy is the 'hotplug' package, please emerge that package and do a 'rc-update add hotplug boot'. Don't touch 'modules.autoload', since the hotplug package will add the modules for you. Now you _should_ see both entries /dev/input/{mice,mouse0}.
Give it another try.
