|
|
I thnk it's been about a week or so, I'm not sure. I thought I was seeing things at first, but it's a definite problem. When I boot into console mode, I'm seeing missing characters and out-of-place characters at random places on the screen. For example: might show if I type . Has anyone else seen this lately, or is it just me and my hardware?

Now THAT is weird.
Have you tried setting your AGP 4X? You should have a BIOS option to disable AGP 8X somewhere. |

Funny you should ask. This motherboard removed the AGP speed setting if an 8X card is installed. Since the kernel's AGPGART is not AGP 3.0 yet, it won't support 8X. I had it all working, but I can't remember if it was at 2X or 4X, set by the XF86Config-4 file. Anyway, everything was fine until some of the recent updates came down. I have no idea where to look, because they were huge updates: kde, xfree86, gcc, glibc, baselayout, etc. |

I had a recent problem that turned out to be bad memory on the video card. I also would drop characters in console mode. If I typed:
I'd get:
The command would still work, and all the console output would be missing letters in the same position. Like the last character in a tab stop would not print. My X screens, however, appeared normally.
If this is what you're seeing, I'd throw in a spare video card and see if it still happens.
Cheers,

I have only noticed it in X. funky stuff happens like when Im using mutt, I will hit the down key to go to the next message, and most of the time it works properly, but sometimes It comes up with a bounce message dialog. (this should only pop up when you type 'B'). And also CTRL R doesnt work anymore in zsh.. and many other simmilar problem. this probelm popped up a couple of weeks ago, and I havent got around to degugging it yet. When I figure out what the hell is going on here I'll let you know. unless you think your problem is different...

I checked the ABIT forums, and this does seem to be a buggy card, but I haven't seen any problems under WinXP. Besides, I don't have another card to test.
I've only noticed these problems in console mode, primarily because my xfree86 is hosed. I'm rebuilding Gentoo using the latest 1.4rc4 CD, but the behavior is still there. |

Hey Everyone,
I'm starting to wonder if it's the card. I own the exact same video card as k-dub, and whenever I'm in console (not in X) I get this problem. I'm gonna post some specs, just let me know what else coincides with your setup k-dub.
Currently Using
1) mm-sources-2.5.72-r2
2) Not using AGPGART, using NV AGP
3) Not using framebuffer
I've also noticed that inside certain applications, any image with a black background has these weird blue dots inside of them. Video memory corruption definitely sounds like a possibility, but I don't notice any problems inside WinXP. _________________ Two roads diverged in a wood, and I --

My settings:
gentoo-sources 2.4.20-r1 with AGPGART as module
nVidia 1.0.4363 driver using AGPGART
I have since purchased a GeForce FX 5200 Ultra and haven't got around to re-installing Gentoo. The good news is that I haven't had any trouble with this card and it's a lot faster (430 fps in Armagetron). |
