conrad: for those with the pre version installed, would emerge -e world be the best upgrade path. Did anything change in binutils or glibc overlay or just gcc ?

honestly, I don't know how to go about updating from the pre version, quite a bit has changed, glibc and binutils are the same though.

Edit: yeah yeah, I'll fix the c* stuff, when I built-tested the ebuild it worked fine for me personally, must be some new commit

Edit2: I can't make the commit until someone on IRC answers my plea for help, I should have it soon

Edit3: Fixed

From Page 1, Install guide
Quote:

6.2 - *** IMPORTANT *** Getting GCC piepatches
I will improve the ebuild soon so we don't need to do this, until then:
Code:
# wget bfgraphics.net/gcc-4.1.1-piepatches-v8.7.8-cg.tar.bz2
# mv gcc-4.1.1-piepatches-v8.7.8-cg.tar.bz2 /mnt/gentoo/usr/portage/distfiles

I have seen that too, is that flag is needed?

Hi, I have installed Gentoo-sources and resier-4 patch, now when I am bootig I get a message that it can't find my inital cosole
"unable to open an inital console"

and then I get this

Code:
your system seems to be missing critical device files in /dev ! Although you may be running used or devfs the root partition is missing these required files

and it say that my root (reiser4) is mounted but read only, even that I set the rw flag in fstab.

What to do please???

Now that hashstyle has made his way into mainstream binutils will there be an easy migration path for conrad user?

Try copying over the /dev directory from the live cd, and create a line in /etc/fstab like this
Code:
devpts    /dev/pts   devpts   mode=0620,gid=5   0 0

worked for me :)

Hi. When I try to emerge portage it gives following error:
Code:
>>> emerge (1 of 3) app-misc/pax-utils-0.1.13 to /
!!! File system problem. (Bad Symlink?)
!!! Fetching may fail: [Errno 20] Not a directory: '/usr/portage/distfiles/cvs-src'
!!! No write access to /usr/portage/distfiles/
!!! File pax-utils-0.1.13.tar.bz2 isn't fetched but unable to get it.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks

Yes, when mainstream binutils gets released.

In the other thread I asked for a patebin of, /etc/fstab, /boot/grub/grub.conf, and /etc/conf.d/rc, and emerge -p udev

What install medium are you on first of all? if it's correct then.

Your portage tree isn't setup correctly.

1) Did you setup the portage-latest.tar.bz2 in /usr correctly?
2) Did you emerge --sync?
if so try
3) mkdir /usr/portage/distfiles /usr/portage/distfiles/cvs-src

Ok I removed file called distfiles from /usr/portage and then mkdir /usr/portage/distfiles and everything works now. I just can't figure out where this file called distfiles came from. It should be directory, right? Well thanks for help. 8)
