im using a sony vaio u1 laptop and it looks like im going to be using the conrad cd for doing a stage 1 gentoo install. but my question is whether or not if i could implement a japanese keyboard layout with conrad. it seems to skip the option to choose a specific keyboad layout. thanks in advance. _________________ known by most...hated by many...adored by the rest |

I followed this guide to the letter, when I got down to the string of emerges that has me build my toolkit, the gcc compile errored out saying missing directory. I used the 2006.1 as my base, not the 2006.0 stage 3 like in the guide. Was that my mistake? It didn't actually have a compile problem, it looked like a configuration problem since it stopped with a missing directory error.
Any ideas or should I wait for a 2006.1 stage3 verified and tested install from conrad?

Same problem here, but I used the 2006.0 stage3, maybe we did something wrong? :p |

No, you (probably) did nothing wrong.
As mentioned earlier in this thread, the gcc ebuild provided in this overlay is missing the files/c88 & files/c89 directories.
You need to copy them from the standard portage gcc in order for this overlay to finish building.
ie:
| Code: |
cp /usr/portage/sys-devel/gcc/files/c8* /usr/local/overlays/conrad/sys-devel/gcc/files/
emerge --resume

Hi, I just thought I'd let you know, guide 3.1 will come very soon, along with a stable kernel patchset. _________________ JOIN IRC!: #zen-sources on irc.rizon.net

Sometimes is not a matter of loving them is knowing how to deal with them once you have them. _________________ Gentoo: Gigabyte: nFORCE 2: nVIDIA GeForce 6600: AMD Athlon XP 3200+

anyway to work around this error in the glibc-2.5 ebuild?seems like 2.5 is still rendered unstable and it's conflicting somewhere in the build. i just cant pin-point where though. any suggestions? _________________ known by most...hated by many...adored by the rest |

i dont think the kernel has much to do with it since glibc failed to compile and install correctly while trying to rebuild the tool kit...but im going to try a few things and see if i cant manipulate the sitution. _________________ known by most...hated by many...adored by the rest |

Thats strange, my conrad updated to glibc-2.5 without any issues.
Though I was using the 2.5-beta snapshots for the last few months, that probably made a big difference. |

matobsk, which version of the conrad install directions did you happen to use and which install CD did you use? if possible, give me a run down of those details. thanks. _________________ known by most...hated by many...adored by the rest |

I use glibc and binutils from conrad overlay(which use patched version of hashstyle). But new glibc and binutils has built-in support. But i read that built-in version incompatible with patched so i need to update all my world(this can take a week on my fast system becouse my world is big) all in stable version of glibc hashstyle maked compatible and i can safely update system? _________________ SORRY FOR MY VERY VERY VERY VERY BAD ENGLISH |

I've been extremely busy, I will update the files and hopefully have it out tomorrow, and if we're lucky later tonight. _________________ JOIN IRC!: #zen-sources on irc.rizon.net
