|
|
hi there - trying to get Gentoo installed on my new Thinkpad x60s, and after compiling X 7.0-r3, i think, i'm unable to startx.
while everything compiled fine, i'm getting an error when i run startx and in /var/log/Xorg.0.log that says "No Screen Found".
i've run through several different permutations of xorgconfig, to no avail. the driver i'm using (X was compiled with this use flag, and just about every i810 mention in the kernel is compiled into it) is i810. i know the i810 works from other x60s owners that have installed it successfully. i've even copied their xorg.conf files (http://www.remset.net/Members/Markus/suse-linux-10-1-on-a-thinkpad-x60s/). still, no joy.
i've debugged X problems before, but never one where it simply couldn't find the screen.

Sorry if this it too obvious, but have you made
sure you have xf86-video-i810 emerged.
My "upgrade" (if you will pardon the expression) to
xorg 7.0 forgot to automagically do that somehow ...
And I'm told that you often have to re-emerge packages
even after xorg is installed so even if xf86-video-i810
is in there, you might have to re-emerge it. |

no problem at all, albright - it's often the obvious stuff we miss. in this case, however, i did have xf86-video-i810 installed, and even after a reemerge, it's no joy.
appreciate the suggestion however. _________________ ------------------------------------------------

well, i "fixed" this simply by emerging xf86-video-vesa, reconfiguring xorg.conf to reflect that and trying again.
i'm not sure what i'm losing by going with generic vesa rather than the actual i810 driver that's supposed to work, but at least it's working. _________________ ------------------------------------------------
