You can only remove a post as long as you're the last post of the thread, silly |

Isn't there a "submit --skipfirst" or something like that?

etc-update
But I also keep all of /etc as a subversion working copy, with a tool that puts file and directory ownership and ACLs in svn properties. Makes it very easy to see the history of changes, and to revert to older versions in case of problems. |

Till it goes off half-cocked and blows your foot off.

Tell that to the guy who blew away a 200GB drive full of data because he didn't have backups. Thankfully no client data was lost, just the Admin's sanity. Of course he now double checks dd commands twice before executing them on sensitive areas, like MBRs. _________________ -Drew |

I voted for dispatch-conf, but now I want to change my selection.
I wrote and am tesing this now:
etc-proposals
I already like it better that dispatch-conf or etc-update, but there are still features that need to be added. |

dispatch-conf.
seriously etc-updaters should have a look at this tool.
while normal etc-update supporters just go with it, because it was there from start,
dispatch-conf users oviously started with etc-update and at some point looked
for alternatives (like if they wanted to have the possibility to revert a change made in the past,
or wanted some better possibility to edit the changes manually.) _________________ quot licet iovi non licet bovi |

If you like dispatch-conf, take a look at etc-proposals. It can be used as dispatch-conf for basic operations, but also provides some additional features. It doesnt yet support archiving old config versions, but will in the future (also in a generic fashion, not only with rcs). I dont see this as such a critical issue as I never even heard of a dispatch-conf user who really digged out an old revision of a config out of rcs ... |

i don't really see what can be added to etc-update to make it better. It does exactly what it's supposed to. _________________ https://otw20.com/ OTW20 The new place for off the wall chat |
