|
|
Hi,
I'm trying to run Trillian under Wine on Xgl. Now initially I had the problem that the contact list maximized and minimized forever, without accepting mouse or keyboard inputs. Nore was I able to quit it. I copied this Trillian installation from my windows partition and so it still had the docking function turned on, and after I changed some .ini the problem was solved. Now the problem is this:
After I start Trillian, the contact list shows up. Everything seems fine. But if I try to drag the contact list, it jumps around a few times - wobbly does a greate job even here btw - but after that it minimizes to the tray and never comes up again, even if I left click on the tray icon.
Another problem is, that I can't right click on the tray, because if I do, the pop-up menu appears but flickers like hell and doesn't accept inputs. This isn't a real problem, because I don't use that pop-up menu anyway.
Anyway I think, that all these problems could be solved if I can turn off certain Xgl plugins, like wobbly, restore and others for this particulay programm. How can I do that?
Trillian was tested quite well on Wine and works on X. Btw, please don't start a discussion about how dumb it is, to run Windows software on Linux Got my reasons...
Thx for your help,

Just tried it. Pretty much the same problems.
You'll probably want to 'emulate a Windows desktop' or whatnot.
Anywho, Trillian sucks, stupid idea if your looking to talk on AIM/MSN/etc.. May I ask the reason behind it? |

I'm using Trillian for a few years now on the Windows platform and if I'm using Windows for some reason now, that I switched to Linux more or less, I use the Trillian installation located on the Linux partition, so that the logs are filled subsequently, indipendet of witch OS I'm running. That could be also possible if I use gaim, because it's cross platform, but compared to Trillian, gaim is real crap.
And anyway, I can't see why Trillian should suck, for my priorities it's just perfect: Tiny skin (see here, nice logs, not only of conversations, but also status console logs (yes I use them from time to time), nice live log display if u open a fresh chat window, etc.
I like it more than every other client, and I really tried costumizing kopete for my needs, but it doesn't reach to trillian... |

How is Gaim crap compared to Trillian? Have you tried the latest beta? |

Uhm I'm quite new to gentoo, and I don't get it, why emerge keeps saying masked for:
=net-im/gaim-2.0.0_beta3-r1 ~x86
in /etc/portage/package.keywords
got that line from http://www.gentoo-portage.com/net-im/gaim
What's wrong? |

It's hard masked, and masked by keywords. You need to do
Code: | echo "net-im/gaim" >> /etc/portage/package.mask |

I don't really see big changes to earlier version, but I just noticed there are some very nice plugins. It's ok, maybe I just need to get used to the new stuff. But still I'm very unpleased regarding the look of gaim. Smilie themes, I mean that's a bad joke. And I use KDE so it isn't integrated taht nicely. Hm, I don't have gnome installed. How do I change the look of gtk based apps so that I can adapt it to my KDE style?
edit: I just gave the newest kopete a try and I'm very pleased of what I see. All menus can be hided, so there's nothing useless left... I think, as a KDE user, I'll remain using kopete.
Although I'm still interested in turing of the Xgl stuff for certain progs... |
