Hi,
I'm looking for a free (and preferably open-source) program to monitor services (like http, imap, pop, etc.) on hosts on the internal network. The program should be able to alert me (email or txt message) when something goes down.
Was wondering if you guys know of anything. Note that I don't need any other features (it'll be run on a slow box and I already have traffic monitoring with Cacti), which is why I'm disinclined to use Nagios. Also, the hosts will not be running SNMP daemon.
Thanks,
Aditya |

I vaguely recall being able to monitor services with php. A quick search on google returned this:
PHP Services Monitor
I am pretty sure there are other such projects out there. You might even find an adesklet running on your desktop to monitor such services.
Hope this helps. |

| You could use a simple bash script to check if a service is running and if not email. |
