I know google just came out with picasa for linux, but they have not yet done so with google desktop. I know you can get most of the features of google desktop with different linux utils. However, there are a few things in the google desktop that are very well integrated with google searches, such as the gmail extension, and the g calendar extension for the side bar. Does anyone know of any linux programs that can effectively use these? Particularly, the calendar? I know that evolution can read the calendar data, but my understanding is that it cannot right data to the online calendar.

They "ported" picaa to linux using winelib, they natively ported Google Earth more recently.
Give them some time, and in the mean time there is Beagle.

Certainly Google is going to shoot for the largest user base first as I would expect any company too. Patience...
