I updated my system on Wednesday, and ever since then, I can't seem to get acpid to daemonize, and I can't get any error messages out of the init.d script (which usually is very helpful in figuring out what's going wrong w/ a daemon). It doesn't print anything to the terminal window, doesn't log in dmesg, /var/log/messages, or /var/log/acpid. The best I could do was to run an strace while trying to run acpid and have that logged. The first time was using the stop-start-daemon command like the init script does, the log of which can be found @ http://uagent.com/acpistart.log. The second time was trying to allow apcid to daemonize itself (the default action if you run /usr/sbin/acpid), the log of which can be found at http://uagent.com/acpimanual.log. Finally, I decided since acpid does seem to run if it's left in the foreground, I ran it for a while in the foreground with strace and logged that, the log of which can be found at http://uagent.com/acpinondaemon.log.
If anyone needs any other info about my laptop, I'll be happy to post, and any hints in the right direction are much appreciated. I tried searching the forum hoping it was something others had seen already, but searching for "acpid fail to start" didn't turn up any results either. :/ _________________ The Master of All Things That Don't Matter

Was that log (/usr/sbin/acpid -c /etc/acpi/events) obtained with strace -f? |

The log file was 2GB in size, so the daemon errored out that the file was too large to open. I cleared the log file and was then able to start acpid just fine again. _________________ The Master of All Things That Don't Matter |
