I have been trying to get this to work ever since I bought my computer a year ago, with different kernels, I am using 2.6.14-gentoo-r7 now. Running "sensors-detect" detects something and sets up the config file to load these modules: w83627hf, i2c-viapro, i2c-isa, eeprom. The farthest I got with it so far was when one time I could get info from the eeprom about my memory, but that is all. "sensors -s" just says "no sensors found". I have tried removing and inserting all w* hwmod modules one after another, but to no avail. Thanks for any suggestions.

Is lm_sensors running?
Code:
/etc/init.d/lm_sensors restart

There was a bug at one time that when ACPI was enabled the sensors on this board stopped working. (I shouldn't say stopped working, but weren't recognized.)
I can't remember, but at some point the newer kernels and the lastest BIOS from MSI fixed this issue.

It works perfectly for a while now and my kernel is currently gentoo-sources-2.6.16-r9

Edit: Corrected mistake of saying Gigabyte when I meant MSI

Hmm, this is a MSI board, not Gigabyte, but it might be just my kernel version (yes, I have ACPI enabled). The sad thing is I still cannot upgrade the kernel, since I have tried and the ati-drivers made a total mess with a 2.6.16 kernel (2.6.15 too). Like hanging the system when logging out of X, the kernel spitting out kernel oops at various places, 3D games failing miserably, deprecated functions in 2.6.16, etc.. The latest ~amd64 driver was not working either. I hate proprietary drivers, but what can we do? I guess I will have to do without the lm_sensors for now.

Sorry, i meant MSI, I was rebuilding a gigabyte system when I was thinking about your problem.

Can you install the latest 2.6 kernel beside your current kernel and just test it by logging in to only a console with this console.
Then you can be sure that is your issue and just reboot back to your old kernel until/if ATI fixes their drivers.

You were right, I tried booting into a 2.6.16-r9 kernel and the sensors are working fine there. I just have to wait for the fglrx crap to work correctly in it.
