Still no dice for me with Suspend2. That's too bad, I really like this kernel but I guess I'll have to live with it for a while :) Still gonna try with vanilla sources with just the Suspend2 patch just to check if the problem is local.

For me it works only with staircase and no-lockless...

Code:

I know what the problem is, I'll post a fix here in a little while.

It just stops at "Doing atomic copy" (at 31mb/55mb last try). I'm going to try with no-lockless.

EDIT: I guess I'll just hang around for the fix instead :)

I didn't try your kernel but I think my is smilar to yours. I patched it with 2.6.17-ck1, suspend 2.2.5.3 and fbsplash for 2.6.16. Everything works(suspend2ram, hibernate, fbsplash).
After that I patched it with hrt-dyntick5 for 2.6.17. Suspend to ram and hibernate doesn't work.
Suspend to ram puts laptop in suspend mode as normal, but it doesn't come out. Only black screen appears. Changing terminals doesn't help.
Suspend2 freezes at doing atomic copy. Also alsa (ess1978) doesn't clock at 48000. It clocks at 47XXX something with hrt-dyntick.

So i think it is something with hrt-dyntick.

swsusp-rework-memory-shrinker-rev-2.patch did't apply cleanly. swsusp.c is good, but vmscan.c had:
Code:
9 out of 13 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file mm/vmscan.c.rej
.

Tried to manually change but there are to many changed lines.
For example:
Code:
***************
*** 745,751 ****
                 * A 100% value of vm_swappiness overrides this algorithm
                 * altogether.
                 */
-               swap_tendency = mapped_ratio / 2 + distress + sc->swappiness;

                /*
                 * Now use this metric to decide whether to start moving mapped
--- 743,749 ----
                 * A 100% value of vm_swappiness overrides this algorithm
                 * altogether.
                 */
+               swap_tendency = mapped_ratio / 2 + distress + vm_swappiness;

                /*
                 * Now use this metric to decide whether to start moving mapped
***************

I don't have that lines in my file.
Is this normal or patch should apply cleanly?

devfs is not in this kernel build, so alsa-drivers will not work. Use the gentoo alsa guide: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml to configure alsa.

Uhh a little help here.

First I removed any config in the /boot/ so that menuconfig wouldn't grab it.

I emerged these sources and started with a fresh config.

I still can't get alsa to compile properly doing an in kernel install.

Code:
WARNING: //lib/modules/2.6.17-emission2/alsa-driver/acore/snd.ko needs unknown symbol devfs_mk_dir
WARNING: //lib/modules/2.6.17-emission2/alsa-driver/acore/snd.ko needs unknown symbol devfs_mk_cdev
WARNING: //lib/modules/2.6.17-emission2/alsa-driver/acore/snd.ko needs unknown symbol devfs_remove

this happends at the end of the make module_install

The alsa guide simply shows one how to compile in kernel or exteral using alsa-drivers.

Neither work for me. What am I doing wrong?

TIP 1
Start using Gentoo :)

TIP 2
Patch the vanilla kernel with http://distfiles.evolution-mission.org/emission-sources/2.6.17/emission2/linux-2.6.17-emission2.bz2 and if you want Con's Staircase also patch it with http://distfiles.evolution-mission.org/emission-sources/2.6.17/emission2/linux-2.6.17-emission2-staircase.patch

By the way... emission2 works here with lockless and staircase
Code:
Linux localhost 2.6.17-emission2 #2 PREEMPT Tue Jun 27 20:41:20 CEST 2006 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+ GNU/Linux

I just used the ebuild. I assume it applied the patchset to vanilla. Am I wrong?

Does anyone have a clue why I get an "undefined reference" when compiling?

That is what I did. In fact it seems faster (disk read access) that -mm1/no2

Hi.
Besides my previous reported problems with suspend2 (which i start to think is a bug on suspend2 2.2.6 or something related to my specific hardware and 2.6.17 kernels, since it happens too with a simple vanilla source+fbsplash+suspend2 patchs) i have experienced some random freezes of X, those that keep mouse cursor functional but clics are do nothing and no keyboard reaction.
I have to login from another machine to reboot...

It seems something related with agpgart module :(

I just used the ebuild. I assume it applied the patchset to vanilla. Am I wrong?
Does anyone have a clue why I get an "undefined reference" when compiling?

1) Yes, it applied the patch to vanilla.
2) Some more details...???

I posted the compile output a few posts up. Is there any more info that would help?
