Do you get the framerate boost with 0.9.9? |
Compared to what? I've been getting a decent framrate all along. The patch just made everything work with wine 0.9.9. I'm judging that my framerate is good based on smooth play with no noticable lag. How do you tell exact framerates? |

Ctrl-R in WoW. It should pop up a yellow framerate meter in the middle of the screen. |

Ctrl+R :ninja edit: Beat to the Ctrl+R thing. There are also interface mods, like Titan Bar that has a plugin to display FPS, which is what I use.
otherside said that the patch gave him a 50-100% framerate boost. It didn't do that for me. I get between 20-30 fps average I start noticing sluggishness at around 20, although quite playable. Havn't played in Windows for some months (about the same time it's been since I booted into windows actually) but WoW runs at about 60fps there.
35-40 fps constant would be really nice. _________________ The official Gentoo motto is, "If it moves, compile it." |

scratch that.. I guess it was something else, but something definitely boosted my framerate. I just don't know what
.. anyway, I recommend disabling XRandR and XVidMode:
open ~/.wine/user.reg and edit the "X11 Driver" section:
Code: | "UseXRandR"="N"
"UseXVidMode"="N" |
This makes workspace switching faster .. at least for me. |

Does 0.9.13 work with no patches? Or where do I find the correct patch? |

I'm having a problem.. I installed wine, and WoW, but when I try to run it I get this:
Code: |
wine WoW.exe -opengl
err:opengl:X11DRV_ChoosePixelFormat glXChooseFBConfig returns NULL (glError: 0)
err:dsound:DSOUND_MixOne underrun on sound buffer 0x55920a58
|
edit: fixed the problem with dev/snd/seq, now just having a glx problem and the sound buffer underrun.\
edit2: I found the problem, it's posted here https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-3325264.html#3325264

I installed Wine 0.9.12 and patched it for WoW, following lots of tutorial that i've found.
Everything worked fine so far, but WoW crashes when i enterworld (just after the loading)
It complains something about "memory not writtable" (i'll post a better error message later)
The point is that: it seems that Wine is working nice since i got no error from it, but WoW crashes ...
somebody has a clue ? i really don't know what to do (i am merging wine 0.9.13 right now)
Have ATI Radeon 9800 ( hope to change it soon)
AMD Athlon xp 2600 with 780Mb Ram
thanks to everybody who will try to solve this problem

There are two problems with that guide:
1) msvcp60.dll is not needed, and hasn't been for quite some time;
2) Installing from the cds works fine, as long as you do 'wine /media/cdrom/Installer.exe' instead of 'cd /media/cdrom && wine Installer.exe'
I know it's a wiki and all, but if someone else could change it, I would be grateful. |

Wine 0.9.13, patched
Dual Nvidia 6600GTs using sli
Amd64
Ok, I got WoW into a playable state. The only problem I'm running into now is that when I open my quests menu, it starts flickering really crazy. Has anyone encountered this and if you have is there a way to fix it?
edit - Just fixed this, I set my multisampling from 24bit - 24bit - x1 to 24bit - 24bit - x4. Weird.

a new patch showed up on http://appdb.winehq.com/appview.php?versionId=4031, wow.new.patch.0.9.13-1. Anyone seen a changelog? It works well for me with the previus patch from there, and I'd like to see what the new patch fixed before just slapping it on |

Just managed to get into the test server. WoW-0.11 seems to work fine with latest cedega. Only the updater (within test client) crashes one. _________________ "May God stands between you and harm in all the empty places where you must walk" - Babylon 5 |

So i got everything running great with the latest patch found on winehq.com on wine 0.9.13
The only problem is the BadMatch problem which crashes tha game when the player goes indoors
Code: |
X11 Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 142 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request: 13887
Current serial number in output stream: 13887
|
which i guess can be solved by minimizing your minimap, I havn't tested this yet since I'm still at work.
But if anybody has a patch that is PROVEN to solve this, please post it.

Ok, everything was going great, then I made the mistake of emerging gnome 2.14. Now WoW still runs, but it's SUPER slow. Any ideas what could have changed between gnome 2.12 and gnome 2.14 that would completely b0rk wine? |

Hi all,
I have a strange WoW freeze ingame issue. Lately I installed an ATI X1300 LE pciexpress graphic card, followed the instructions and wikis (direct rendering: yes) and was able to patch wine 0.9.8, 0.9.13 and right now the 0.9.14 verstion without any problem. When entering game - after some seconds the whole system freezes - so that I am not even beeing able to Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and have to unplug power.
2 days ago I was finally able to play with the 8.24.8 drivers so I will reinstall them and see if it is stable. I will also try some other games, to see if it is a game and wine or more some sort of graphicdriver problem.

I recently got WoW to work and when I run it, it is EXTREMELY choppy. I have the latest r8 kernel and the latest ATI drivers. Direct Rendering is enabled and my /dev/shm is mounted.
Now WoW worked fine on the same system under Windows.
Anyone reccomend anything? _________________ The box said Windows XP or better, so I installed Linux. |

I've just freshly reinstalled Gentoo and emerged wine 0.9.14 using an overlay and the patch on the winehq site for WoW. WoW runs, but with some problems. Some have already been mentioned.
When I walk into an indoor area (ie an area where you can't mount), the screen flickers. It does not stop even after walking outdoors.
Something else that I noticed was that the only resolution available ingame was 1280x1024. This is the only mode I entered in my xorg.conf file for the default depth of 24. In Windows, I usually play at 800x600 (for performance reasons on this old, old machine) but I can't change to that resolution under Linux.
I tried editing my xorg.conf and used a default depth of 16 and for that depth I added modes 1024x768 and 800x600. Now, I get the "badwindow" error when either trying to start WoW.exe through wine or even just winecfg.
Code: | Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 1 (X_CreateWindow)
Resource id in failed request: 0x103
Serial number of failed request: 13
Current serial number in output stream: 15

I am using the 8762 version of the nvidia driver.
Any help would be appreciated. |
