Hi,

I have been using Gentoo for quite a while on a desktop and when I try to install the last one (2006.0) on my notebook, I get stuck at the "Coldplugging pnp devices" level.

My notebook is a VAIO PCG-Z505GR/K, it has a "MagicMedia 256L+" graphic chip.

Does anyone have any idea of what is going wrong ?
Let me know if I should put more information in order to get help.

I must say that I have installed may times linux on this machine. But never Gentoo.

Thanks for any tip.

Michel

I am using a livecd (livecd-i686-installer-2006.iso).
As far as I remember, there is no Universal install CD for x86 on the 2006.0 version.

Then try the minimal install CD: http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/where.xml

Thanks for your suggestion,

But I have done minimum installs in the past on a desktop; it takes for ever because you cannot use the packages ready to use.
It takes for ever, for no real reason since I do not customize my X-windows an KDE (and other stuff) anyway.

(I only customize my kernel and I do not need a minimum install for that)

I think there should be another way to solve my problem.

If you can tell me why a minimum install has better chances to works I might try it -:)
Or (probably) just give up because it is too time consuming.
