I'm using atchlinux, but found out a similary topic on this forum http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-6699393.html
I don't think that the problem is distributive dependent, so maybe here i get an answer.

When i turn on apic support in bios, my linux is loading for random some seconds and then hangs.
Sometimes even i have time to login and startx, but then (about 1-10 sec) the kernel hangs.

With ACPI = off, system is stable and i can work for some days without reboot. But in such case my kernel supports only one core of my CPU.
I've tried to apply "debug" option to kernel, but kernel does not provide any helpful info - it only hangs.

My hardware is: asus p7p55d + 4 core cpu i5 750 + GeeForce 9800 GT + usb mouse + usb keyboard + Ralink corp. RT2561/RT61 802.11g.

# uname -a
Linux localhost 3.10.10-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Aug 30 11:30:06 CEST 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux

That hardware i've used for 4 years under win7 without any troubles.
In bios i've turned on ACPI2.0 and ACPI APIC support.

Is there any thoughts how i can find a cause of hangs? Maybe i can use some specific kernel or may be i can get some debug info to find a cause of it?

Thank you.

Moved from Kernel & Hardware to Off the Wall. Not about Gentoo so it fits better here.

Download a livecd that has ACPI support, does it work?

Did you try with APIC disabled by itself?

Did you build your own kernel or is it the stock kernel?

What am I supposed to be advocating?
