Back to window managers for a moment, ratpoison is very very light and works fine as a wm for mythtv.
focus problems are particularly pertinent when using an external program like mplayer or xine to play movies. lirc works on the app with focus, and if focus is not passed to mplayer, then the remote stops working. A wm should alleviate these problems. |

Good point about focus with external programs. I don't use any, though, so I don't have to worry about that.
When I was using a WM I actually tried ratpoison for a short while. I found that it prevented the myth adjustments for picture alignment from working. On my TV I have to use them to get the picture centered so ratpoison was not an option for me.
fvwm always worked fine and is also in the list of light-weights. |

is it possible to hide the x cursor for some seconds because while loading I see a black screen (Which I can live with, but would be nice if I could change this to the same background as my myth theme) but the ugly x cursor. |

You could use unclutter(1).

I know this is old, but I figured I'd (hopefully) save people some trouble if they're upgrading to .25.2. No longer is "-l" an option for mythfrontend, so you'll need to change the .xinitrc to:
Code: |
/usr/bin/xset -dpms s off
while :; do
/usr/bin/mythfrontend -v important,general --logpath /var/log/mythtv/
done |
