|
|
So, when I type username and password what files does xdm look to continue?
xdm starts nicely but it just flashes black background and logs out when logging in. (fluxbox)
startx works fine.
What exactly does this mean in my ~/xdm.log:
Code: |
AUDIT: Thu Sep 14 11:42:28 2006: 5183 X: client 2 rejected from local host
AUDIT: Thu Sep 14 11:42:28 2006: 5183 X: client 3 rejected from local host
|
???
Other way to solve this is to find a manual that tells how to set up xdm correctly.
There might be some "corrupted" files. I have no Gentoo and XP. Usually I edit Gentoo files from XP and some times it puts there something that wont belong there. Like a file has "^P" at the end of every line.

man xdm =) gives you all the information you need ( also check the other man pages that man xdm refers to at the end of the file)
how have you configured X to use fluxbox as your window manager?
try putting "fluxbox" in ~/.xinitrc ?
why are you configuring from windows?! learn to use vim or even nano ffs =) |

Well it seems that I must try to read that man page.
I feel like this X( so it is not fun...
~/.xinitrc
Code: |
exec startfluxbox
# exec twm
|
~/.xsession
Code: |
# twm &
startfluxbox &
|
and
/usr/share/xsessions/fluxbox.desktop
Code: |
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Fluxbox
Comment=This session logs you into Fluxbox
Exec=startfluxbox
Terminal=False
TryExec=startfluxbox
Type=Application
|
I know how to use vim and nano (most of the time I use vim) but I dont have vim on my XP. It is just easier to read manuals and forums with XP right now. I have many things to do if I want Gentoo be usable which is what I really would like to have. metapad can get texts to unix format. (So, this part is solved)
/etc/rc.conf
Code: |
UNICODE="yes"
EDITOR="/usr/bin/vim"
DISPLAYMANAGER="xdm"
XSESSION="Xsession"
|

Ok, I really hope some one will answer this:
I moved .xinitrc, .xsession and fluxbox.desktop files away from their location and changed the line "XSESSION="Xsession" " from rc.conf. What is strange is that it didnt have any effect to xdm.
Is there any other places that xdm might look for? Or has any one any idea what might be the problem?
And would someone tell me what kind of command starts xdm that starts fluxbox?
# xdm -x [??] -session [??]
I dont have /usr/lib64/X11/xdm/xdm-config file. What should it contain?
~/.Xauthority is emphty.
I dont have any /usr/lib64/X11/xdm/A<display>-<suffix> (authorization files)
Should this have any effect? |
