Something very similar just happened to me: i915GM chipset, updated from X.org 7.0 to 7.1 and got the following messages upon starting glxgears:
Code: |
libGL warning: 3D driver returned no fbconfigs.
libGL error: InitDriver failed
libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering
|
glxgears performance suffers accordingly, i. e. framerate drops to about 1/3.
/var/log/Xorg.0.log, however, reports
Code: |
(II) I810(0): direct rendering: Enabled
|
I'm at a loss...
Update:
After rebooting, glxgears performance is back to normal, but now the
Code: |
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x23
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x25
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x27
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x29
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x2b
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x2d
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x2f
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x31
|
warnings appear, too. |

I too had this problem, but I think it isn't important. I'm using ~x86, and my solution was update the system "emerge -uD world" |

i also get the warnings on my i915 chipset. don't know how criticial they are. btw, i have one question.. why were so few packages updated for xorg 7.0 -> 7.1 upgrade? i remember having to unmask a lot of packages to get modular X to install. |

Same problem here. There is a bug on freedesktop. My external monitor does not work as good as before (when activating laptop and monitor, the monitor picture shows not everything; fine when only external monitor is activated). I probably downgrade... _________________ Gentoo on Intel Core Duo 2 E6750, Gigabyte P35-DS3P, NVIDIA 8800GTS (amd64) |

bumping this!
I also get the same messages on i915. Google earth is horribly slow because of this:
gamma ~ $ googleearth
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x23
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x25
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x27
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x29
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x2b
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x2d
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x2f
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x31
do_wait: drmWaitVBlank returned -1, IRQs don't seem to be working correctly.
Try running with LIBGL_THROTTLE_REFRESH and LIBL_SYNC_REFRESH unset. |

Of course it speeds it up, it's using indirect (=software) rendering and not (buggy) DRI |

I tried the CVS of Mesa. NeverWinter Knights segfaults after I upgrade Mesa from CVS.
Any Ideas what might need to be rebuilt against new Mesa? NWN uses OpenGL and SDL library. _________________ If God were a pickle, I'd still say "no pickle on my burger".

I hadn't removed the previous mesa properly. Now with the CVS the errors are gone.
NB: if you plan to install the CVS please edit the configs file before making to avoid installing dri drivers for all the cards
I haven't tested on games yet but google earth is running fine.
EDIT: *bump* The new CVS crashed on Warcraft3... Rolled Back to portage version. |

Something weird with prebuilt games requiring SDL/OpenGL and DRI probably... wish I could figure it out. _________________ If God were a pickle, I'd still say "no pickle on my burger".

Well if it's CVS there is no ebuild
Do an Then go to your home folder or anywhere you want and you can grab the CVS using: Code: | cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@anoncvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/mesa co Mesa |
The CVS is about 30MB if I remember so be patient.
Before you make, you can edit the Mesa/configs/linux-dri file to choose only the driver for your card (saves loads of compilation time). |

Well, the method I mentionned above grabs the latest CVS from the official website, if you're going for CVS, do it the right way... or am I wrong? |

If you're using Gentoo, do it the Right Way and use an ebuild. It makes it a lot easier to slip different versions in and out, plus it tracks stuff. Also makes it easier to choose a verified working date for CVS; sometimes you can catch it at the wrong time.
Besides, the ebuild is easier to modify and other people are using it so you aren't alone if it isn't working; you don't really need to manually check the CVS out unless you intend to fish out a problem yourself (fun!) _________________ Firefox is spelled F-i-r-e-f-o-x - only the first letter capitalized (i.e. not FireFox, not Foxfire, FoxFire or whatever else a number of folk seem to think it to be called.) Well, if you don't want to run into problems just stick to the stable ebuilds and don't try the CVS.
CVS is Not the Gentoo Way indeed. CVS is aimed at developpers and kernel hackers and allow checking and testing the latest developments. Well at least that's how I use them.
IMHO if you are affraid to break your system, just don't use CVS at all. |

I personally use Gentoo to have the latest (or as others like to call it "bleeding-edge") linux supported system (drivers/software/etc).
I think gentoo does a good job with regards to CVS packages..... E17 is one example with many users...
I think it'd be nice if mesa-cvs ebuild makes it into the official portage.
incidentally, if you guys feel gentoo's not the right distro for cvs packages... then what/which distro is? (i might switch over !) |

Slackware or Linux from Scratch fits the bill, but why would you do that to yourself?
(Well, I would understand if you need to make a 4MB server-in-a-thimble or something, or if you were one of them FreeBSD people, but for almost every purpose, there is a correct distro to use)
ebuilds are the way to go if you only intend on being a user and not tweaking the sources yourself; I don't mean to knock on anyone who actually needs to use Mesa CVS manually, because of course they help make 3D acceleration work on my computer _________________ Firefox is spelled F-i-r-e-f-o-x - only the first letter capitalized (i.e. not FireFox, not Foxfire, FoxFire or whatever else a number of folk seem to think it to be called.)
