aaaarggggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!
Stavo compilando kde 3.5.2 su ~AMD64, l'ho lasciato acceso di notte e stamattina ho trovato questo errore:

ecco, lo sapevo.... ho sbagliato a riportare l'errore...
il problema che il pc è a casa, dove ho una misera 56K, mentra invece scarico da lavoro dove sono adesso, quindi non posso rilanciare l'emerge per riprodurre di nuovo l'errore, mi toccherà aspettare domani mattina.... |

mmmmmm nessuna traccia di topmost build error...
Comunque ho risolto, visto che l'errore me lo dava in cartelle /doc ho provato con USE="-doc" ed è andato tutto bene. |

ahem.... "topmost build error" non è un tipo di errore...
quando emerge ti dice "If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant" non ti invita a cercare una riga con scritto "topmost" ma solo a postare l'ultimo errore rilevante riscontrato. Capisco che l'inglese per alcuni sia un problema però basta un po' di fantasia...   
Quanto randomaze ti ha detto che l'errore stava poco sopra le righe da te citate è perché hai postato solo la seguenza di uscita di make in cui abortisce tutto DOPO aver riscontrato l'errore...
