|
|
Hey, i had gnome working earlier today. But through a series of stupid decisions. I cannot start x. In gnome i couldnt change the resolution. So i went to change the xorg file, and i kept editing /root/xorg.conf.new (like a dummy), and nothing was changing. So i thought (like a dummy) to remake x. So instead of running xorg -config, i ran xorgconfig (the manual set up one). After going through this, i could not start X AT ALL. i got a fatal errors..
Now, im just trying to make another working xorg.conf file just so i can boot up gnome again, because this time im pretty sure i know how to edit xorg.conf properly. But i can no longer run
i get the following messages (this is just near the bottom)
| Code: |
Symbol XAAGETStipplescanlinefuncMSBFirst from module /usr/lib64/modules/drivers/chips_drv.o is unresolved!

Also, on a side note, during boot i get a system.map module not found (or something). Just adding this incase its related.
Thanks a lot for any help

Delete the files /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /root/xorg.conf.new
Then try running Xorg -configure which will create a new /root/xorg.conf.new. Change whhat you need to change and copy it to /etc/X11 |

I still get the same error. Any ideas anyone? I think maybe it has something to do with drivers? But i successfully merged ati-drivers. And i had gnome working earlier, so i dont see what could be wrong :S
Thakns

Sorry for not being specific have you tried the aticonfig command since you were able to get the ati-drivers install. If you get the same error as the Xorg -configure error then I'm stumped.
Configure X
Option 1: Newer Drivers (8.21.7 and newer)
| Code: | /opt/ati/bin/aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf
|
If this command doesn't create a working Xorg environment, open up your (now modified) xorg.conf file, find the area labelled: Section "Device" and change the driver from "fglrx" to "radeon". This will swich Xorg to using the opensource driver.
View additional options for aticonfig by typing
| Code: | | /opt/ati/bin/aticonfig --help | less |
Option 2: older drivers (pre 8.21.7)

Another thing do you even have and xorg.conf file located in your machine?
Judging from the other post that you may have deleted it and might of not created another one. Just wondering. _________________ shorewall how-to
