I use XGL with both desktops without issue. However this is running them with the startxgl script from the WIKI page and this in my xinitrc:
* For KDE:
compizrc &
sleep 2
startkde
* Otherwise just gnome-session for Gnome since it has compizrc in startup programs.
If parts of this don't make sense those said parts are covered in the WIKI howto. |

Moved from Desktop Environments to Unsupported Software. XGL is not supported. |

XGL is still in alpha stages. so it's unsupported by gentoo developers.
back to the topic - i think gnome performs a bit better with XGL. i had some glitches in KDE with wobbly plugin (which i dislike anyway) _________________ ~amd64

EDIT: I oversimplified and a buddy pointed out that what I said wasn't exactly true.
XGL is a set of OpenGL extensions on top of X. It is desktop-environment neutral. However, the authors designed and tested it on GNOME, and it was then adapted to work on other DEs. Guides are available here for using it on other DEs. The main disadvantage now for using it on, say, KDE, is that you have to install a ton of GNOME packages as dependencies to get gconf-editor and gnome-window-decorations. Other window-decorations packages aren't quite there yet, and you get GNOME titlebars when using XGL on KDE.
