I'm having the same problem here. Never had it before, so I thought maybe the line had changed in the ebuilds, but no luck. All previous ebuilds in both compiz-vanilla and compiz-quinnstorm have the same exact line there. I also had no luck registering in the xgl-coffee forums, so hopefully someone with a solution will come here and answer this for us.

I will look into the cannot register on the forums problem (I am the forum tech/admin). As far as the compiz error goes, I don't see what could be causing this, but try this:

Edit the ebuild, remove the line: '--sysconfdir=/etc \', and run emerge --digest compiz-vanilla.

Just thought about it. If that doesn't work, what does 'eselect opengl list' output?

At first it appeared your fix worked, but then I ended up getting the error, just further along in the config process.
Here's my output:

Code:
# emerge --digest compiz-vanilla

Put the line I told you to remove back, and try: eselect opengl set xorg-x11. Also what mesa version do you have? (emerge -p mesa)

I end up getting the error at the original point after reverting the ebuild and doing

Code:
# eselect opengl set xorg-x11
Switching to xorg-x11 OpenGL interface... done
# emerge compiz-vanilla

Code:
# emerge -pv mesa

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

What is your current running version of compiz-vanilla? Is it the same version without the -r1? If so, I don't understand what the problem is. The only change in -r1 was the addition of --sysconfdir=/etc \.

Ok, just did this on my computer. It works just fine. So it has to due something with your video card and opengl. It isn't the fault of the ebuild.

Yep. Same version without -r1.

Hmm. That stinks. I'm not disagreeing with you, but there's something weird about this. illele and I are having the same problem independently of one another. Perhaps something else that was upgraded from the testing overlay is causing this error. The only thing I upgraded between compiling the non-r1 and attempting to compile this version was other packages gotten during the same svn update to the overlay. I ran install.sh as included in the overlay with the "full vanilla up" options and it just failed on compiz-vanilla.

Well it can't be something with this particular ebuild, maybe mesa or something? The funny thing is that I am running it all fine (only difference is I have nvidia set for opengl, and I use -quinnstorm instead of -vanilla).

Right. That's what I meant. Normally I go for almost a week without upgrading anything (unless some notable upgrade in my system or in this overlay comes about). I'm wondering if perhaps something else in the overlay that was upgraded in the same period perhaps caused something in my system to change and reject compiz installation.

Could be several things. I don't remember all of what I commited. It is in the history, as I made a somewhat detailed explanation of what changed.

Well, I tried downgrading mesa, but that didn't change anything. Now I'm going to attempt to downgrade xgl and see if that fixes anything.

Edit: Using genlop, I've found that the only packages in the overlay that I updated before this breaking were mesa, xgl, and xorg-server. As such, I've already found that reverting mesa didn't fix anything. I'm going to see if reverting either xgl or xorg-server will help things.

Edit2: No luck after downgrading xgl, so hopefully downgrading xorg-server will solve the problem. If not, I guess I'm at a loss for a potential solution unless anyone else can suggest something.

Edit3: No luck with xorg-server either. I guess I'll just leave this as it is and hope that a later upgrade will somehow fix this.

Moved from Desktop Environments to Unsupported Software since x11-wm/compiz-vanilla is not in the official portage tree.

I still don't understand why this is happening. I have compiled (not installed because I already use -quinnstorm) this package with absolutely no problems.

Can you all please verify the /usr/lib/opengl directory exists? If so, what directories are in there?

Code:
# ls /usr/lib/opengl
global  xorg-x11

For the record, I'm using Intel graphics while it seems littleman is using nvidia. So this is happening on more than one graphics platform, for whatever that's worth.

Ok, please give the output of: ls /usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/ /usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/

I know this is repatative, but other than these directories not existing, either the configure isn't working right, or I have no idea

Svn up, and try it now.. I fixed it according to CoronaLover.

CoronaLover: I don't know if that is the fix or not.. It worked just fine for me, ontop of that, they even removed that line before. But we shall see.

my guess, the didn't remove the line, just commented it out (don't ask me how a space kills an ebuild even if the line is commented, I have no clue)

Bingo.
I just commented it out...

This whole situation is so bizarre. A space, even when commented, breaking an ebuild for some people and not others... Just weird...

Thanks alot to both CoronaLover and especially nesl247 for all the time you spent helping me out with this.
