I am interested in emergeing winex to play games. Well emerging or gettng the latest from CVS (whichever is better). I have tried wine in the past with mandrake and kinda gave up at that time, it was just to problematic for me. Is the emergeable winex free or would i have to have a key or something? I read here in a couple of posts that the ebuild of winex is not that good and to use the latest CVS. Which route should I take? I'm dual booting with windos 2000. Can wine the files it needs from 2000 on ntfs or do I have to go fake win98 install route? Thanks.
PS: What is a good site to read up on how to configure winex/wine?
I run winex on my systrem. It has all the files you ned to run games. BUT keep in mind not all games will run with winex. Its still in its infancy, but improving everyday. Winex, is not free, but what you are paying for is the support. You get a membership to the site, which alows you to get updated for winex as long as your a member. You get to vote on what you want to be included in the next release. It work good on my system. I won't play everything I have, so I have my windows pc still up. But for the most part it runs nativily the gmaes I play. Hope this help....
So its like VMware. You can get it using emerge from the gentoo ebuilds server but you still have to pay for it? Or did you missunderstand what I was saying? I don't want to go to the winx website and download it from them and have support and all that. Just want to emerge it.
The Portage version is a CVS version, generally a little behind the current CVS version. You don't have to pay for a CVS version, since that's all open sourced, it's just missing some proprietary additions like safe disc functionality.
