yeah , cool we just need another round of dependancy jives to benefit from this powerful new feature.
If anyone has some spare time the ebuild needs modifying.

It also breaks DirectFB-extra. Neither version in portage will compile against it. I reported the bug, and someone posted a follow-up comment on libsdl. The odd thing is, I was able to build libsdl, but I don't know why.

Downgrading to DirectFB-0.9.22 fixed the problem.

I prefer not to use the term "upgrade", it encourages that belief that bigger numbers are better.
Mindless number chasing is becoming a problem for linux as a whole . A distros feel pressurised into having the latest KDE , or whatever , and release stuff that still half tested. One that has a good stable selection of software tends to get sneered at for being hoplessly out of date.
"update" accurately indicates that it is more recent without implying it is of a better "grade".
looks like this package is a case in point.

I don't know. I mean, I get the argument for precision in language, but I think after so many years of MS dominance, pretty much everybody is aware that "upgrade" is not necessarily a universal positive.

| I like the idea of using "update" instead of "upgrade" but what about my final sentence? Do you have a replacement for "downgrade"? I don't think anyone would be happy with"downdate". |

you upgrade to an earlier (working) version of course! 
"I upgraded to 0.9.22" to makes the point nicely. Otherwise I sometimes use retro. Retro implies back rather than down.

It's not just M$, since it seems most things , be it hardisks, OSs, or powertools get worse each time you buy one, I'm not sure it's a pointless call for pression in language.
It's true but the need for constant security updates has conditioned ppl into this mad rush headlong. I still use 2.6.11 because it is good stable kernel. I long since got bored of "upgrading" every time two weeks when there was a new snapshot and spending the next ten days getting everything to work again.
anyway lets hope there will soon be a fix of dfb so we can upgrade to a newer version.

And now back to your regularly scheduled program ...
In response to my bug report, I was told to try revdep-rebuild as per the ewarn instructions from DirectFB. I did: | Code: | # revdep-rebuild -i -p
# revdep-rebuild |
and this fixed my problems. I realize that this won't help those of you who can no longer compile libsdl.
On a related note, does anyone have a suggestion for how to view those ewarn messages after a bunch of emerges have completed? |
