|
|
First: I've gentoo now running for more than 2 months, and it's really fine. but like with any distribution, there happen strange things ...- I'v run qpkg --dups -v and get a long list of packages, that seem to be installed in more versions. crosschecking with emerge -p -c world shows nothing. what's the mystery about qpkg?
- I upgraded (nearly) every mozilla version avavailable. emerge -p -c world tells me that 0.9.9-r2 and 1.0-r2 are protected, 1.0-r1 could be cleaned, which I did. now emerge -p -u world wants to reinstall 1.0-r1
- still mozilla
Code: | PHIEPS root # emerge -s mozilla
* net-www/mozilla
Latest version Available: 1.0-r1
Latest version Installed: 1.0-r2 |
no, I did not manipulate the package mask, I just upgraded to what was available - although it doesn't seem to be!
cdrtools are mysterious in another way: Code: | * app-cdr/cdrtools
Latest version Available: 1.11.23
Latest version Installed: 1.11.20 |
well, I installed .23, but emerge -p -c world took .20 as protected and suggests .23 to be removed
I also came across several problems with emerge, like
- no packages for download available (time and again, some come slow)
- packages available but missing patches (like currently with parted-1.6.1)
- missing digest files (xfree-4.2.0-r12)
Again: on the whole everything works fine, but such inconsistency in the package-management is not what I need to have better sleep....

I believe these things to be some type of portage bug, as I have also experienced the same type of *happenings* lately. _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

Well I don't know which packages you have installed, but for example I have xcdroast installed and this contains the line in depend: Quote: | ~app-cdr/cdrtools-1.11.20"
|
I have this installed, still 1.11.23 is available. but it's not installed because no packages depends on it. Files are protected when they are needed for other packages. So probably is not a portage problem, but a ebuild problem, or maybe not a problem at all.
Other problems, just emerge rsync, there are always some minor (packages are uploaded to the server, while you are rsync'ing, or just human error) errors like digest files missing and things, but these are normally fixed very fast.

Never thought about that, perhaps his mozilla is depending on galeon. My packages defer from those stated above, and I have nothing that depends on gtk2 but it's still installed currently. _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

Galeon depends on Mozilla, not vice-versa... but still, how would that break anything? That's normal |

I did say something useful, I asked how galeon depending om Mozilla would break anything. |
