My VIEWS:
Gentoo - takes a comparitively long time to get set up, but is well documented. Fairly easy to keep up to date and stable.
Debian - Faster installation, but I've always had to edit xorg.conf/xfree86.conf to get X working following installation. Slight tradeoff between up to dateness and stability, but testing tends to work well.
Fedora - Haven't used much. Fairly trivial to install, but not as much software in the repositories. Didn't last long on my computer before I went back to Ubuntu or something.
Frugalware - Never heard of it |

Gentoo - takes a lot of time to set up (even if you know what you`re doing) but once it`s done it`s done. The good documentation is a huge plus.
Fedora - tried it for several weeks but it couldn`t last on my pc for long. Somewhat trickier to set up in the beginnig (maybe because i have little experience with fedora), some of the things i needed weren`t in the repositories (even the ones i added besides the deffault repositories) but in the end i managed to get it working as i like.
Debian - whatever i try i always get back to debian. I liked Gentoo but in the end i switched back to debian. Relatively easy, very nice packege manager and unstable is enough stable for me. Maybe it`s not a coincidence that some of the most popular distributions are debian derivats. _________________ ... to boldly go where no one has gone before... |
