I've got meself another problem ;)

Today I wanted to make WineX work, and I did...well half of it anyways.
My problem with WineX was that when I b00ted a game (ie Diablo II, Warcraft III) it just did 100% CPU time and nothing happened.....

Anyways, after a bit of searching I found out that some people had the same problem, and that it helped switching from GENTOO-kernel to VANILLA-kernel.....so I did...

Problem afterwards was that KDM wouldn't b00t anymore, and then I remember ed that I had to remerge nvidia-kernel and ALSA drivers.....so I did...

But they just won't work, not even modprobe can find em

Anyways, I tried to upgrade the nVidia stuff to the newest (ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86") with unmerged my old ones and installed my new ones...but no luck....

I've discovered that since the nVidia kernel 41xx the module in modules.autload should be named nvidia instead of NVdriver.....so I did......but no luck again...

I just can't seem to find an answer, maybe one of you could help me out here :)

Hmm, have you changed your /usr/src/linux symlink to point to your new kernel?

i.e. do a ls -al in /usr/src, and see which directory linux is symlinked against.

If it's the wrong one, you're probably compiling your nvidia and alsa modules into the wrong place.

Try deleting it, and use

ln -s /usr/src/newkernelfolder /usr/src/linux

Then re-emerge your nvidia and alsa drivers. Oh, and while I think of it, the latest nvidia drivers you need to change the reference in your XF86Config file too.
