Hi,
I know there are already several threads and howtos about ATI drivers but no one did issue my problem  . I don't know what is exactly happening, I used to have ati drivers working on the same kernel but know I can't figure out what's happening.

I already have a kernel with DRM and DRI disabled, AGPGART and nvidia AGP as modules and MTRR enabled. Here is my xorg.conf file :

I've tried different configurations of "UseInternalAGP" and "MTRR" in xorg.conf, all I get is a warning when "UseInternalAGP" is on. I've also tried with the ati-drivers ebuild (8.21.7-r1) and know I am running the ones from the ati website (8.23.7) and it's still not working.
I'm desperate, I'm stuck with this since this morning and I can't think about anything more to do to try to make the 3D acceleration work. Oh and my graphics card is a Radeon 9600 pro.

Edit : I forgot to mention that when I use xdm, loging out completely freezes everything (i'm not even able to ctrl+fx) and when not using xdm, dmesg used to complain about mtrr (i've checked just know and it doesn't do that anymore .. maybe because i've just disabled xdm without launching "startx" from the console").
If it's a help to someone i've compiled both the kernel and the drivers with gcc 3.4.5.

I had the same problem and downgrading the kernel to 2.6.14 solved it for me. :?

Erf .. :? Ok thanks for the tip, i'll do that then. However I tried to "emerge -s ">gentoo-sources-2.6.15"" but it doesn't find anything. How can you search a package with a version ? Otherwise I don't know how to "downgrade" my kernel :?

You would have to unmask the appropiate in your "/etc/portage/package.keywords", since all other versions are masked

Working with Gentoo

I installed the 2.6.14-r7 kernel but I still got the same problem  (and I didn't forget to recompile ati drivers on the 2.6.14 kernel). Which version of the ati driver are you using ?

I'm using x11-drivers/ati-drivers-8.23.7. Sorry it didn't work for you.

Maybe looking at this monster or reposting your probs over there might help. :?

Edit: Perhaps you would even like to ask a mod to move this whole thread to the big xorg thread.
