Does anyone use aterm with xgl? I've noticed often when I use aterm the memory consumption skyrockets - all my memory plus 75% of swap, and the computer slows to a crawl. And the problem resolves when I killall aterm. Anyone else notice this? It's been a problem for a while. |

I've spent a few days getting xgl and compiz in
and it doesn't run
i had to do the USE="-mmx" workaround for a few packages, now when i start compiz to replace kwin,
theres a seg fault and kwin exits
this is revision 184 i think |

heya
you can change per app here
/apps/compiz/plugins/transset/screen0/options/apps
first you use this command line in a terminal and then click the app you want to define
xprop | grep WM_CLASS | cut -d \" -f 4
then input the results in the above key with the opacity level

Heya Priyantha
take a look here and see if these links can help you
the first link is howto define your keyboard layout and the other explains
howto use xmodmap, i thought maybe this would help

hmm...as opposed to some people who get pink window shadows I seem to not having any shadows at all with the newest compiz-quinnstorm-0.0.10.13 from xgl-testing. I also do not have any drop shadow settings in the decoration plugion setcion in gconf. |

You could always trying to gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz and then restart compiz.. It should remove all your gconf data, then reimport it.. |

i just upgraded to testing rev 190 and all went well
except i don't have the new state key's for
brightness, saturation and viewport lists, and if
i put the state key where it now belongs after "place"
then it disappears
state plugin still works in it's previous position and
still has the opacity key, and i am able to make the
cube transparent, so it is like i got the new state plugin
without the new key's but with the new features of the opacity key _________________ Core i7 920 D0 | Asus P6T DLX | Patriot Viper 1600 6GB | Antec Quattro 850W

This happens to me all the time.. Unfortunately the only method in which I get it to work is to unset all the compiz stuff (--recursive-unset) and then restart compiz to get it to put it all back fresh. |

hello guys .
I was with the xgl-coffe version of XGL and everythings worked fine . but I wanted to try the new dock plugin , so I folowed this post, and I had XGL with the xgl-testing overlay . but it was not enought stable for me , so I went back to the XGL-coffe version
but , as you advice , I did that :
xport GCONF_CONFIG_SOURCE="xml:merged:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults"
gconftool-2 --makefile-install-rule /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz.schemas
It is suposed to fix something (I didn't understand) , for the xgl-testing version.
but now I am back to the xgl-coffee version, is there a way to reverse this two line? is it important, or can I just leave it ? I dont understand for what this two lines are for.
If someone can explain to me ...
and an other question : in the xgl-testing version , with the new 190 revision, is the dock plugin fixed and stop crashing compiz with the "fantom" window?
thankx |

Thanks. I tried that. It didn't help though (btw how do I reimport the settings?). I re-added all plugins but still no shadow. Plus my upper screen border in xfce (task bar and upper window border for maximized windows) is now about 50 pixels below the screen and background image top border. strange things happening...I probably have to revert to compiz-vanilla. |

I think that program is Novells own tool for configuring compiz which is included in SUSE. Not sure if you can get it for other distro's. Try gset-compiz instead. |

btw, does anybody else get the error I mentioned here? |

Ok i've setup xgl quite good both on my desktop (using an nvidia card) and on my laptop (using an ati one). The problem that i am dealing with has to do with the inability to switch ttys using alt+ctrl+(F1-F12). While in my desktop pc i can use the key combinations and switch ttys, from my laptop configuration i cannot. Is anyone dealing with it?? It is very strange because i did the same setup on both machines using gdm and the wiki instructions.
Also, from my laptop i cannot start a new X server (using xinit) from within the XGL one. For my desktop, no problem again, xinit works great and i can launch any games or other opengl stuff that has problems with XGL.
Are there any advice for these things?
I'm using compiz-vanilla.
Here are my configs:
/usr/bin/compizrc_gnome
Code: |
#!/bin/bash
#
# Start compiz within gnome-session
#
if [ `ps -A | grep Xgl | wc -l` == "1" ]; then
#DISPLAY=:1 LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/ compiz --replace gcon$DISPLAY=:1 DISPLAY=:1 LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/ compiz --replace gconf decoration wobbly fade minimize cube rotate zoom scale move resize place switcher &
#DISPLAY=:1 LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/ compiz --replace gcon$DISPLAY=:1 gnome-window-decorator &
# DISPLAY=:1 setxkbmap -model pc105 -layout it -variant basic

@TemplarKnight
try re-emerging the following packages:
- x11-misc/xkbdata
- x11-misc/xkeyboard-config
make sure they're in your /etc/portage/package.keywords as well. _________________ Never argue with an idiot. They will only pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience. |

i had that prob too i think its cause ur xorg.conf isnt right if i remember rightly its the
Code: | Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Keyboard0"
Driver "keyboard"
Option "xkblayout" "gb"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
EndSection |
bit hope it helps |
Ok, something ungly happened yesterday and trying to get
- x11-misc/xkbdata
- x11-misc/xkeyboard-config
on my system, broke the switching layout ability i had before. Pliz look at this thread https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-462175.html and tell me if u think of any solutions. Switching layouts is much more crucial for me....
Another thing i noticed was that i can perfectly right switch ttys using the same xorg.cong and regular X server. The problem seems to be from withing XGL |
