This is actually better then when I tried to update other selections with etc-update, all I get with those is a display full of garbage characters and then the xterm window locks up on Me. I guess I should be happy etc-update terminated before it actually started trying to alter the above config file. |

Hello,
What terminal are you using? What happens if you run etc-update under the console(that u can access through ALT-F1...), not under xterm? I had no problems using etc-update under gnome-terminal, YMMV.

I tried Konsole(since I'm in KDE) and Eterm, same results. |

Ok I fixed it via a suggestion from the mailing list, Here is an example of what I did:
Code: |
cp /etc/sound/events/._cfg0000_mailcheck.soundlist /etc/sound/events/mailcheck.soundlist
|
I did that for each of the 11 files I had to update and it seems to work but I'm worried that this isn't a one-time problem, if it isn't then I'm screwed. |

Those are coded in UTF-8, and yes, they'll probably reappear every time you'll upgrade some i18n-enhanced application. What's your locale? |
