I have a 6800 (nonGT) and as I said above in linux the fps in wow seems totalled going from 90fps(in windows) to 30fps(in linux) in IF on linux it seems about 20fps so I'd guess it'd be similar in raids etc.
The fps seemed a lot better and much more stable with the old patch. I do notice in linux load times are a lot faster tho, but that's probably to do with the linux filesystem. _________________ kernel 3.2.2-1 | openbox | github |

| Has anybody had any luck getting opengl working with Cedega 5.0.x and WoW 1.9? Once I upgraded to 1.9 it broke my older version of cedega so I went and finally upgraded to the newer version, 5.0.3, and now I can't get WoW 1.9 to run in opengl in fullscreen mode anymore which is very irritating. I can't figure it out. Any thoughts? |

Just my two cents:
got everything running fine in opengl mode with wine-cvs and the patch without the outdated circle fix.
only thing is the low framerate you guys have reported: huge lag in IF makes visiting the AH a torture. also, raiding can be called impossible, since you get like 1 frame per 10 seconds or something.... additionally, I encounter server disconnects from time to time, which is probably a result of the lag.
1.8 was working flawlessly, no bad lags or similar stuff. I must say that I really don't like 1.9... not only that it is unstable and buggy, they also made the warlock even "worse" again...
if anyone finds a way to boost the framerate, we all would really, really appreciate that I haven't been successful, yet.
@ dubs: I'd suggest using D3D instead of opengl.. it has never worked properly for me with cedega. If that doesn't help, switch to wine and cancel your membership at transgaming.. cedega ain't any better anymore. (I know, this is very subjective, but anywho... )

hello there and thank you all for contributing to this thread, it has helped me to mkreiserfs my windows drive oh well on to the subject.
wow itself runs flawlessly, no bugs, latest update easy to install, however there are one thing that I agree upon with the other posts. Performance kills me. In the big cities and at the AH its a coffe break while I wait for the graphics, and even in the non-populated villages I'm down to about 10-11 fps. I've noticed that it is when I see other players or NPC's that the lags comes crawling, whereas a fight between just me and a monster flows really good. My conclusion is that when there are little graphics to read it flows good, and when there are a lot of graphics (for example in a city) it lags. Is this due to low RAM?
I have an 1836 MHz processor (says dmesg)
and 513 RAM
NVidia GeForce4 MX 440 graphics card
gkrellm2 says that my processor works at 99% all time while playing, and that I have approximately 100M RAM free while playing. What is the bottleneck/s? What should I upgrade next?
Which graphics settings in wine should I check?
Thanks |

i am having a problem playing WoW with the latest patch now. I'm using cedega 5.0.3 and fglrx module with an ati radeon 8500 LE 64mb video card. When i start WoW in opengl mode, i get no backgrounds. For instance, at the login screen, all i see is that stone thing that goes around the login boxes. The rest is black. When i run it in D3D mode, almost everything works except i only get the text of boxes and my in-game console. i do not get the actual backgrounds or whatever of them. also, at teh character select screen, all i see of my character is his face and staff. the rest is gone. i'm using the latest version of ati-drivers and cedega. i've tried recompiling them both with no success. anybody know what i need to do to get this working?
i just tried wine and it seems to do the same thing as cedega in opengl mode. i'm using the latest ver of wine too.
i got some screenshots of how it looks in cedega in opengl and using direct x.

| Out of curiosity, could you start WoW with -console, press ` or ~ to bring up the console, and type gxApi to see what graphics engine it says you are using? For some reason, when I use the -opengl flag, it says its direct3d, but runs great. |

Any issues with wine-0.9.5, or can I just apply the same logic to emerging it as i can with wine-0.9.4? I'm emerging now and will report anything.
Update:
wine-0.9.5 with the 0.9.4 patches seems to be working fine, except sometimes wine just exits. I didn't catch the error because I wasn't outputting to terminal. _________________ AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux 2x2.2 ghz

I got the same problem.
Downgraded to x11-drivers/ati-drivers-8.18.8-r1 solved the problem |

'glxgears' is commonly used to test that opengl is active and working (and accelerated). Just type that into a console. _________________ 'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves

so i can not blame the card for anything. |
Yeah but what about under wine?
It may be a compatibility issue with linux drivers and this particular card, so how does it run? _________________ Hysteriagaming.co.uk is now DOT COM! New design, forum, articles, the works! http://www.hysteriagaming.com

Not that I can notice, it seems like mostly bugfixes. On a sidenote, WoW 1.9.1 is also just bugfixes and slight balance changes, so wine still works fine. _________________ AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux 2x2.2 ghz

I'm usually testing the latest packages and bleeding edge cvs/git software and I can say that WoW works great if you know what to do.
If you do a fresh checkout from git (git-pull), there's two things you have to do to make WoW work:
1. reverse a patch that breaks WoW (git-revert 412cb77d511fc370932e21e7945d6f902c6992fc)
2. apply the mouse fix (you can find the patch somewhere in this thread/forum)
After that, you can compile and install wine and it whould work in opengl mode (I didn't test D3D though).
Sometimes, as you might have read in this thread, the drivers are the culprit, especialy on ati cards, try to downgrade your drivers. I'm using a nvidia card with the latest drivers that are available in portage and I have no problems.
For amd64 users:
./configure may fail because if can't find the opengl libraries (and possibly others, too). Use this command to configure wine:
./configure CFLAGS="-L/emul/linux/x86/usr/lib" LDFLAGS="-L/emul/linux/x86/usr/lib" [additional options]
[additional options] can be any combination of:
--disable-win16
--disable-debug
--disable-trace
If you play only WoW or you don't want to report bugs, you can use all three options.
I've create a short shell-script so I don't have to type this command everytime I build wine:
| Code: |
#!/bin/sh
./configure --prefix=/usr --disable-win16 CFLAGS="-L/emul/linux/x86/usr/lib" LDFLAGS="-L/emul/linux/x86/usr/lib"

can you please explain in short how to make a checkout using git? git-cvsimport-script and git cvsimport is not properly working for me
always getting a "bad usage: invalid argument -A" cvsps error.

Wine has a native git repository, so you don't need to import the source from cvs: http://wiki.winehq.org/GitWine
basically boils down to:
| Code: |
git-clone http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git wine-git
cd wine-git
git-revert 412cb77d511fc370932e21e7945d6f902c6992fc
patch -p0 < /path/to/wine-wow-mouse-fix.patch
./configure [...]
make depend
make
make install (under root)

A bit late response, most cedega users must known now 5.0.3 is needed after patch 1.9.
Darckness: I have 6800GT.
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+
2.6.13-rc6
Latest nVidia
I played in 1680x1050 - wide screen baby with AAx4 ANIx2 all settings max except distance to around half.
Regular outdoor go from 40-80fps.
MC is a bit slower ~20-30fps but still very playable. Absolute lower during major AOE storm is around ~12fps.
I love AA too much, I don't mind few fps drop for a beautiful scenery
PS:nVidia 6800 and MB with nVidia chipset has a incompatibility bug. Bravo nVidia. If you have it FW must be disabled in BIOS or performance is absolutely terrible especially close to water in swamp-like place Wetlands, Sorrow, Un'Goro (I know about the Fixed option to fix one water bug but this is something else). I cursed WoW and cedega for months before to find out. _________________ "May God stands between you and harm in all the empty places where you must walk" - Babylon 5 |

To be complete neenee, I run with "Enable all shaders effects" OFF, "Vextex Animation Shaders" ON and "Smooth shading" OFF...
AA is much better that smooth shading to my taste anyway... _________________ "May God stands between you and harm in all the empty places where you must walk" - Babylon 5 |
