mplayer on many files just can't show a video, only sound:
Code: | Requested video codec family [wmv9dmo] (vfm=dmo) not available.
Enable it at compilation.
Requested video codec family [wmvdmo] (vfm=dmo) not available.
Enable it at compilation. |
What can I do on iBook G4 ? |

What can I do on iBook G4 ? | The Windows codecs are x86-only (binary), so you cannot use them on PPC, to my knowledge.
Not certain, but you may want to try running the Linux/x86 version of mplayer through qemu's usermode stack. _________________ ~~ Peter: Programmer, Mathematician, STEM & Free Software Advocate, Enlightened Agent, Transhumanist, Fedora contributor

It is not free, apparently you cannot redistribute the source if I understand all the comments well.
It needs some hooks in vlc (which I never got to work properly on linux [ppc or x86]) or on ffmpeg
http://multimedia.cx/eggs/?p=129, that should make it available to most players using ffmpeg.
The last bit was posted in October 2005 so it may already be in the portage tree version.
I don't really have the time to read all the gory details and experiment myself right now. |

It's a port for mplayer. They have already tested on x86, amd64 and powerpc. |

If you look at the link I provided, which I found by looking up the previously
mentioned link, you will find it mention explicitly ffmepg and not mplayer.
On the other hand mplayer like most any media player around use ffmpeg as part of
its back end. Furthermore mplayer keep its own version of ffmpeg on their CVS. |
