Hi all,
I was wondering about the r300 project. As most of you know, that project is developping opensource drivers for the R300 3d acceleration engine.
According to the webpage, 'development has moved to Mesa/DRM and X.org CVS trees', and the webpage is no longer updated.

I would like to know the current state of things, and before I go knocking on doors at the xorg project, I thought I'd ask here.

Did they release code or mark it stable? Is there anything included in the modular X packages (and what's the status on that?) Is it easy to try out the hardware acceleration stuff by using modular X and swapping a 'stable' package by one made from the cvs code?

Has anyone tried it on recent iBook or powerbook hardware? If so what were you experiences?

tia,
Thomas

It's already included in the radeon driver with modular X, but some people are currently having trouble with the current radeon driver on Macs. The fixes are already in CVS afaik, but haven't yet been added to portage. The drivers themselves are adequate for most 3D tasks now and support has been improving rapidly.

Last time I tried it, all that I could do was hardlock my powerbook whenever I started X. I couldn't find any answers, so I've resigned myself to waiting a while before trying again. I don't suppose any of those CVS fixes could've solved hardlocking issues?

JoseJX, have you got any idea when we are likely to see these CVS fixes in portage?

Are they going to be part of a Xorg-7.1 release?
